"ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS!?!?!?!? THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL MY CHILD IS GOING TO TRY OUT THIS EXPERIMENTAL DRUG!!!"
The voice wrong through out the torn up house. In a far back room a 17 year old person sat on the bed. He looked like he hadn't slept for a week, his eyes yellow, indicating liver failure, the body was frail and clothes hung loosely on the frame. He was infected and slowly dying, but slowly suffering as well. He didn't mind if he could just close his eyes and sleep forever pain free, that would be great, but he just had to suffer till the bitter end. He also heard the ear piercing yelling at the entrance of the house. He knew who was at the door and he knew what they wanted.
"Don't you want your child to have a second chance at life?" The person at the door cried, "don't you want that for him?"
"What life is there for him now, have you seen what the world's come to now? His dad exclaimed, "honestly he'd have a better life if he dropped dead right now!!"
His dad wasn't so far off: the world has gone to shit and no one was able to stop this disease tearing through the world. The monsters were unstoppable, despite the military's best efforts, and people were dying left and right. It was a shitty world to be alive in at this point, but throughout all his pain and suffering and longing for a quick death, he wanted to have a second chance, maybe even join the military and kill some of those vile creatures. With a gasp and groan Gage got up and staggered to the door.
As his dad was about to slam the door, Gage spoke up.
"I'll do it", he said as he leaned on the closest wall, "I'll do it."
Gage's dad looked at him, his stare was filled with anger and surprise, almost depressed looking. Gage knew he didn't want to lose him, but he also knew he didn't want his son to suffer anymore. Gage, as well, just wanted to end my suffering and was done. He had to paths: he would either die and turn or be cured and live to see another morbid day.
"Look, I know times are tough, but either way I don't have a future in this horrible world", Gage explained, "I can either take this drug and have a possibility to live longer, or suffer the next few months, die and turn into one of these... things."
"Are you sure you want to do that, Gage?" his father asked, "this could be a life or death situation."
Gage smiled, this time without pain this time. "I'm at the doorsteps of death, if I have a chance to live another day I'll take it, even if it means it won't work."

The two girls were walking silently, making sure not to make a sound. They were walking with one of the scientist to a jet plane that'll take them to Russia. Their names: Xiavhonn and Mikayla, their stories: both afflicted with the Infection and both going to Russia to get administered the experimental drug that could possibly save their thinning lives. Mikayla lost her family to the Infection last year, while Xia only had her Grandmother and, of course, her closest friend Mikayla.
Mikayla was more of the clumsy type, but still kind and gentle. Xiavhonn, on the other hand, was strict, but forgiving, motherly, but merciless if you messed with one of her friends. They were the inseparable peas in a pod and no one could ruin their close relationship... no one. The were fighters, survivors and ready to get a second chance at life, possibly make a difference while at it. When Xia's grandma opened the door, talked to the scientist about the experimental medicine that could save the girl's life, she looked at them and said.
"If I had the chance to change the tide of all the horrible things going on in the world right now you'd bet your butts I'd be on the aircraft in a heartbeat."
With those words, both Xia and Mikayla hugged her grandmother, packed a few things and headed to the aircraft. The walk was long, mostly because of the added fear of being spotted by the creatures that roamed the street at night. Mikayla nor Xia have ever seen these creatures, but they've heard rumors on how vicious and unforgiving they are and didn't ever want to come face to face with one of them ever in their lives. Instead of walking like they did on a regular basis, they decided to crouch and stay close to the walls and buildings so they wouldn't make any sudden sounds or moves that would draw unwanted attention to themselves. Every now and then they could here the screeches and roars of a far away beast and even the screams of another person becoming the prey of one of those monsters, the world was just this morbid nightmare that one would just try to survive in in day by day; if you asked someone what natural selection was at this time, they'd say it was not getting killed by those monsters and hoping not to turn, keeping their loved ones safe, and trying to find whatever scraps were available. That was their life right there, nothing new and nothing special, just survival of the fittest.
After a while their fears got lifted as they saw the aircraft in site. It almost looked like a heliplane, but instead of propellers it had thrusters. The tail was split in two at the end in a diagonal shape and the body was sleek and slender. The forest green coloring and black trim finished the look. All three of them hurried into the planes back hatch and prepared to fly off.
"Here", the Russian lady scientist said handing each of the girls a bracelet with a small screen on it, "these bracelets will monitor your health throughout the experiment."
"Thanks", Xiavhonn replied softly, taking the bracelet and putting it on.
"Yeah thanks", Mikayla said fumbling with the bracelet before Xia just put it on for her.
"Prepare for a long ride ladies and gents", the scientist explained before going into the pilot room.
Before the girls could ask questions, they saw a few another figure, secluded in the darkness of the shadow. They could tell just from the silhouette of the figure that, he too, was on this aircraft for the same reason as them. From what Xia could tell, he looked like he was one breath away from death, but not ready to put both feet in the grave. She felt something about him: he wasn't brave, but just standing his ground. He was strong, that was a good trait to show, in Xia's book.
He's not a bad person, maybe a little lost, but not bad. Xia thought, he's make a good friend.
That's when Mikayla leaned towards Xia's ear and said: "he looks weird."
Xia gave a glare and a low growl. "You don't say things like that, about people you haven't met before!"
"Well you say that when people enter your grandmother's house."
"That's because I don't like them and I'm hella judge-y!" This last comment made the figure move his head towards them as if he was looking at them dead on. No emotion just a shadow looking at them. That's when Xia decided to get up and walk over towards the slender figure and introduce herself.
