Chapter 8

Gage walked around around the building. Each child was sent to go find something different, aside from Xia and Mikkyla, who were going to talk about something, probably important, but they couldn't worry about now, they needed to know who
Dr. Kuznetsov really was....

"Hey, did you talk to Xia or Mikayla recently, I saw one of them come out of the room," Leo whispered.

"I'll go check on them, but found anything interesting?" Gage whispered back walking with the other boy.

"Yeah, I decided to look out a window to "Look at the beautiful scenery" and guess what I saw?" Leo stated with a grin, "military; tanks and everything and that's not even the best part."

"That's defitnetly an eye catcher, but lemme guess it's not a Russian military."

"I think it's an American military, but they have every type of weapon pointed at us, like they're going to attack as soon as they hear the order to."

Gage looked around for the closest window and when he found one, he went over to confirm Leo's discovery and sure enough Leo was right. Tanks were pointed at them, soldiers were at post, snipers on other buildings and a little makeshift base of operations with high ranked soldiers flowing in and out. His stomach formed into knots as he surveyed the horror unfolding.

Gage turned to, Leo, clenching his metallic fist. "Tell everyone to get to wherever Dr. Kuznetsov's is and I'll go check on Xia."

"You got it!" Leo said running back to where he left off with the others, they were supposed to meet back in the mess hall after a while, so he'll just tell them then.

Xia was on her bed in the fertile position, her eyes were red from crying. She couldn't believe it: Mikayla, of all people, is turning into this stranger to here and all she could do was watch her friend slip away. More tears flowed down her face, before she heard a knock at the door.

"Come in its opened", she called out wiping tears of her face and sitting up.

Surprisingly it was a someone in a hazmat suit. Something she wasnt expecting, but she passed it along as nothing. He was carrying a pretty big cube-looking silver case, which was wierd. What cased Xia's warning meter to go off the charts was that his suit was what he did and said next.

"Excuse me miss you're alone right?" The man asked as he started fondling around in his case.

Xia knew that most of the staff in this lab spoke Russian and even if they did speak english it was usually with a thick Russian accent. The man didn't have either of these traits. The man then pulled out a multiple empty syringes and needles.

"N-no... why do you ask?" Xia stated with a hint of confusion and fear in it.

"No reason at all... just wondering...."

Before Xia could understand what he was talking about, the man turned around and shot her. Luckily her reaction was faster than the bullet as she jumped to the side the bullet only left her a minor graze on the shoulder. He shot and this time she rolled under the bed before rolling to the other side. Her thoughts raced as she heard the foot steps get closer. She then remembered her ability she just got not to long ago and decided to do that. As she tried to cast an illusion he was already right in front of her.

"I'm sorry I have to do this kid, but this is for the greater good of humanity... I'll make this quick, for your sake." The man said lifting the gun towards her.

Everything seemed to slow as Xia watched the gun being lifted up to her face, this couldn't be how things ended for her. Her friend slipping between the cracks, the world coming to its morbid end as these mutated beast ransacked the planet. No, it couldn't end like this... could it?

Just as her last thoughts exited her mind there was a vicious snarl and the man was ripped from the position he was in, firing the gun into the air. There was this shadowy wolf over the man biting down on his neck and with one mighty trust, the Wolfe ripped the man's throat out, splattering blood all over the walls of the room and leaving the man on the floor twitching a little as blood pooled from the fatal wound. The funny thing is that is exactly how Xia wanted him to die... if she was a Wolfe at least. The Wolfe looked at her before dispersing and with that her hands and arms had the same shadowy substance the Wolfe was made out of and dispersed just as it did.

Gage ran into the room as he heard the screams and looked around he saw the walls splattered in blood and a man in a hazmat suit with a pool of blood on the floor. Xia was just looking at her hands with curiosity as she looked up at Gage.

"What... what the hell happened here?" Gage asked stepping over the blood, "did you... did you do this?"

"My little pet did this... it's a Wolfe so I'm pretty content", Xia stated, "as for the dead guy I can't say he felt or feels the same way."

"Are you okay? I mean you just killed someone, even though from the looks of it they were going to kill you." Gage asked still concerned on the looks of how everything looked.

"I'll be fine as much as I'm concerned I was just a human blood bag to him", Xia stated pointing towards the Syringes on the table with her chin. " I'm pretty sure he got through the security."

"Yeah, I think I know who he is and why he's here, but before I get into that with you we need to go find the others and Dr. Kuznetsov."

"And Mikayla?" Xia asked looking at Gage with concern and hurt in her eyes.

"Hopefully safe just like everyone else, but if these people are already infiltrating this place we need to get the information we need and standing here won't help." Gage said opening the door.

"Oh please I just killed someone give me a second!" Xia spat back sarcastically walking out the room with him.

Whatever was going down, it was bad and nothing good would come out of the next few hours and only Dr. Kuznetsov had the true answer behind what was really going on...
