Chapter 6: A New Mission and Nightmares

Naruto's POV

"Sasuke, I'm at point B." Came through my headset. " Sakura, I'm at point C." Another voice chimed. "Naruto, I'm at point A, Believe it!." I said a few minutes later Kakashi said, "Kotone?.....Kotone?......Answer me!" Yet again he tried to communicate with Kotone. 'Is she ok? This mission shouldn't be too hard. Oh well...'I thought. "What's your distance from the target?" Kakashi asked. Everyone responded with a 5 meters, but Kotone was still not answering. 'What is going on with her? 'I asked myself.

Kotone's POV

I was running through the woods, I was being chased by something. I never turned around to see it and I tripped on my dress multiple times. It was a beautiful pearly dress and I had a gold necklace and crown with pearls. If I wore this anywhere I would feel really girly but right now I was terrified. No matter how fast I ran the darkness would follow me. My feet were bare, every rock or twig would hurt my feet. My breath came in short bursts, I ran and ran but the golden light ahead of me seemed to get farther and father away.

That light was the only safe place. I ran as fast as I could but it still was too far away. I tripped on a tree root and I fell I heard a twig snap behind me and I turned only to see a pale hand reach from the darkness. "Kotone...Join me...." It said in a small voice. It was the kind of voice that sent shivers of terror down your spine, the kind of voice that rode the wind and spread terror wherever it went. The kind of voice that sounded like the person who the voice belonged to was insane.

I woke with a gasp. 'What was that about?' I thought to myself. Then I saw Kakashi standing in fromt of me, "Hope you had a nice nap Kotone, because you will be in charge during our next mission." He closed his eyes as he gave me a smile..I think. I shrugged and got up from my sitting position on the ground. "These aren't missions Kakashi, they're chores that a child can perform. Ninja's are supposed to be a military force right? Ninja's aren't babysitters." I said this with a smirk on my face.

Kakashi just shrugged, "We do what were told." I sighed and flitted to the Hokage's office. I stood in front of his desk and showed my respect by bowing, I then leaned on the wall behind his desk. The Hokage gave me a curious look. "Just wake me when the rest of our team is about to leave, Kakashi interuppted my nap." The Hokage just nodded and turned around. I drifted back to sleep...

I was chained to a cold metal table my legs and arms were bound to the four corners. I was only wearing a pure white tube top that stopped below my breasts and a white skirt that was split on the sides to show my legs ans started at my hips, the clothing seemed to glow. A pale hand reached forward from the darkness. "Join me Kotone....I can give you the life you always wanted. You just have to help me defeat him." I shook my head no in fear of this stranger. Suddenly, I felt pain in my arm. I looked over to find a cut dripping blood down my forearm. Tears started to fall from my eyes.

"Join me Kotone....." I shook my head no again, another cut, this time on my leg. He kept asking me to join him and I started screaming. I was now covered in blood, I kept screming no and he kept cutting. "Since you wont join me...you will have to....die!" And with those word a pale figure came out of the shadows. The last thing I saw was a pair of peircing onyx eyes.

I shot up out of my restless nap and butted heads with Naruto, who was trying to wake me up. I rubbed my forehead, Naruto clutched his head. "You have a hard head, Believe it!" He complained. I smiled and ruffled his hair with one hand, "Sorry Naruto, it was a scary dream, I did not mean to hurt you." He just blushed and muttered about having a drunk guy insult him then have to be headbutted by me. I smiled at him and turned to the old guy in the room who was staring at me as if I was insane.

"So we have to escort you?" I asked. I tried to find out more about him. "Your from the land of waves right?" I asked. Naruto's jaw dropped. "HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT!? YOU WERE ASLEEP THROUGH THE WHOLE THING, BELIEVE IT!?" He shouted. I turned to him, "Naruto, this man is practically drunk and he can still stand straight. He has to be used to walking on boats or docks. He has a good sense of balance, and a low center of gravity, thus sturdy. Those who live in the land of waves tend to be well balanced and sturdy." I replies smoothly. Then I continued, "Although with enough force in the right area he will tip over easily, plus he has a type of hat that you usually find in the land of waves."

Everyone was staring at me as if I had a second head. I rose my eyebrow, "What? This all should be obvious..." When I got no reply I turned to the old man. "I have been put in charge of this mission by Kakashi sensei and swear to protect you with my life Mr....." I paused to let him introduce himself. "Tazuna, and you have to be kidding me! This weakling in charge!? She looks as if she would break from a breeze!" I glared at Tazuna, "I would not judge others before you get to know them Tazuna-sama. You may find that they could injure you in the future." Tazuna just shrugged, thinking that I was bluffing. I turned to Kakashi, "I will now prepare for our next mission." With those words I flitted away.

~ Later at the Gate~

While I was at the gates I was standing next to Tazuna and tapping my foot furiously. "If they don't hurry I will take you home by myself." I muttered to him. "Theres no need to rush things." He said quickly. I turned to him and narrowed my eyes. 'Something is off about this mission.....he's not telling us something...' Just as I was about to question him Naruto and Sakura showed up. My eyes narrowed at them. They both looked at eachother and chuckled nervously at me. I eyed the almost empty weapons pouch tied to Sakura's leg and shook my head nad then I turned to Naruto, his was a little more full, but still not better. I was covered from head to toe with hidden knives, along with more weapons in my weapons pouch that was attatched to my right leg.

Then Sasuke showed up I nodded aproovingly seeing that he had a nearly full weapons pouch. "Stay here..." I told them, I then dragged Tazuna away from the group and when we were out of hearing rage I started talking in a hushed tone. My back was to the others so they couldn't read my lips when I asked, "What are you hiding from us Tazuna?" At first he looked surprised, then he acted like he had no clue, it was bad acting. "What are you talking about? I told the Hokage everything! I payed for a C-rank mission! You have no right to accuse me of hiding something!" He gestured wildly as he spoke.

I glared at him, "Tazuna, I tolerate many things, what I can't tolerate is a lier. This can't be a C-ranked mission because I notice how you look around nervously everywhere, even in the ground, You should be strong enough for you to handle a few robbers even at your age. You wouldn't have to explain that you paid for a C-rank mission because I know what rank this is. This is greater than a C-rank and if I wasn't sure my team could handle what your problem is I wouldn't be dragging you here I would be dragging you back to the Hokage's office. Now tell me what you are hiding from us bridgebuilder."

By the time I finished Tazuna had wide eyes and a shocked face. " You have to understand our country is in it's worst condition, we have little money. I'm building a bridge so I could fix this problem. Gato has control of our shipping and has control of our island. I'm trying to break his control so he can't take over our contry. He has most likely sent ninja after me, and I needed help." I bristled at the thought of Gato. I've known about Gato's underground dealings for a long time, since I joined Suzume's family who ran away from their village because of Gato and now knowing that a country was under his control I wanted to help in any way I can. I placed my hand on Tazuna's shoulder, "I'm here to help my friend." I smiled at him showing my support. We walked back to the others and soon after much pestering from Naruto and Sakura and no answers from me or Tazuna, Kakashi finally showed up and we left through the gates.
