Short Story
I thought I would be lost without you. The minutes I'm holding your hand as I watch you lay on the uncomfortable bed as nurses come by each hour to check on your heart as it beats slowly beneath the rib cage. I gaze into your eyes and saw how weak yet beautiful at the same time the first moment we met. We were both drunk at the bar, both heartbroken, and both bored out of our minds we just became teenagers again just enjoying our youths drunk. Your heart rate is decreasing, and it made me think of all the things we've done together. I count to ten as you take each breath. One - that one night we were at the bar we were drawn like two peas in a pod with a broken heart from a bad break up. Two - two laughs gave us the chance to redeem ourselves. Three - three words that you said to me put a smile on my face; cute, funny, and smart. Four - Four shots is what it takes to get us drunk and run out crazy. Five - was five starts in the night sky before the sun begins to set, five starts for us to pinpoint where we are. Six -from midnight to six in the morning we would talk to each other, laugh, or cry. We would just be there at all times. Seven - seven years we've been together in love with the adventures from Europe to Japan, all my favorite places and you never complain about it because they were your favorites too. Eight - eight days after you found out you have cancer which stopped but came back and it pains me to see you so weak and suffering. Nine - nine days you've been in the hospital, nine days I come to visit, nine days of the sleepless night just staying by your side and prayed nine times for your recovering. Ten - the tenth day you said I love you as your last breath. Your hands became cold, and your eyes are lifeless can no longer give a small glint as I was the last person you ever saw. I always thought I would be alone since my last break up, but when you came into my life, everything seems to light up. You made my world a whole lot of new journey I can travel, and you made it possible for me to move on because you showed me life is too short, but you left me too soon, and I forgive you for that because I know you will always be in my heart. I'm no longer considered lonely because you are up there lonely and soon I will meet you there.
Just wait for me, my love. Wait for me.
