// psa that this oneshot is hella long
ruby sat quietly slapping her phone gently against her thigh as she waited for britt to come back. but it was taking forever and the longer she sat on the small couch, the sleepier she got, eyelids slowly closing.
"okay, so they gave us the reservation but we have to have at least 12 to 15 people but i managed to get away with 16- oh, are you sleeping?" britt asked quietly, face scrunching up in confusion. "ruby, weren't you just jabbering about how excited you were about actually getting to go play laser tag like 2 minutes ago?"
"nope, that was 20 minutes ago." ruby yawned with a smile. "i needed a nap anyways. but i honestly don't know who's coming at this point."
"well, there's us, my parents, your parents, aunt maddy, uncle will, uncle jay and emily. plus, grandma said she might tag along too with grandpa." britt grinned softly, plopping down next to the younger joseph. "funnily enough, she asked if we had any newfound interest in boys lately. but i'm definitely leaving that for you to explain."
"aw, c'mon, why do i always get the short straw when it comes to talking to her? the last time i talked to her, she tried to convince me that my soulmate was a pair of ballet shoes and some hair ties." ruby laughed softly, a familar chime finally came from her phone, drawing a slight pink tinge to her cheeks.
"speaking of boys, are you inviting jj?" britt grinned cheekily, poking at ruby's cheeks. "we do need 16 people and i could always get charlie to come."
scrunching her nose slightly, she quickly opened the text from her boyfriend, a small grin slowly making its way onto her face.
"uh oh, i know that grin. what'd he say now?"
"it's, um, he just wants to go out and have date night on friday." she laughed softly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"shit.. this friday?" britt asked shyly, anxiety filling her eyes as ruby nodded happily, staring down at her phone. "i, um, i may have set the reservation for this friday already."
"what?" she blinked in surprise, looking back at her cousin. "this friday? l-like the day that comes after this upcoming thursday?" she winced as britt gave a small nod, an apologetic smile on her lips. "oh, god."
"b-but think of it this way! if you bring him, you still get to come with us and get your date with jayson! not to mention, he gets to meet the family and grandma sees the both of us, happily in a relationship, and everything works out!" right as ruby opened her mouth to say something, the guy from the counter grinned out at them.
"ladies, good news! your reservation for a party of 16 is set for friday! see y'all at 8!"
the two of them sat in silence, one with her hands folded across her lap and the other with her head in her hands.
"celeste, look at the bright side, it's just laser tag. s'not even a real gun! and he'll have fun, just as long as you have fun." brittany grinned slightly, watching the smaller girl start to break out into a smile. "you know that boy's crazy about seeing you happy."
