Homeroom went by pretty quickly. Since it's the first day, our teacher was just handing out Emergency Contact forms that we had to give to our parents. The bell rang so Ian and I grabbed our things and headed out the door. I waved goodbye to him as we went separate ways down the hallway.

The first half of my classes were dull. Since it's the first day, we were just reading syllabuses the whole time.
Lunch finally arrives, I wasn't too hungry, which is a good thing considering I only had water and gummies
I sat down at a table with a couple of my friends, planning to either play a card game or just chat or something. We decide to chat rather than a game, usually Uno gets pretty intense and ends up with everyone yelling at each other.
We talk for a bit about who's in our classes, what classes we had after lunch, the newest meme to surface, etc.
After a while of that, I heard a group of boys laughing at the table behind us. I didn't think much of it, I knew it was the same boys from the bus, I recognized the voices. My friends and I have learned to ignore them over the years.

"Hey, hey Nora." Nick, one of the boys at the table says.

"Just ignore them Nora." my friend Sara says. The boys keep bothering me so I finally give up. I roll my eyes and turn around in my seat, all of the boys are hiding behind their backpacks and snickering. I automatically knew that they would say something about Fortnite.

"What." I say to Nick who was crossing his legs, trying to look professional.

"Did you know that Jonas sucks at Fortnite?" Nick replies while snickering like a little kid.

"Hey!" Jonas says standing up from the table, laughing along with everyone else. Jonas starts fake-hitting Nick in the face, Nick plays along by pretending to be hit in slow motion. Everyone else at the table was going nuts, like making sound effects and chanting.

"Why can't we be friends?" a boy named Matthew starts singing.

Meanwhile, all of my friends and I are just watching the stupidity that's unfolding in front of us.
Eventually, the bell rings and we can go to our next class.

I'm in my last class of the day, Science. As soon as I walk into the room, I cringe as I see that there are cards with names at each place to sit.
I'm not a big fan of assigned seating, I guess it just depends who I'm with.

The room is filled with long black tables, with two chairs at each one facing the front of the room. I sit down at my name card at a table in the back. Once I get myself together, I glance over at the name card next to me to see who I'm with.
Of course, it's none other than Jonas.

As if on cue, Jonas slides out his chair and plops down next to me.

"Hey." he says smiling at me.

"Hey." I say, smiling back like the polite human being that I am.

The bell rings for class to start, so Jonas and I turn back to face the front.

"Hello class, my name is Mrs. Colpsojgrewrykloyewka." the teacher states.

Oh my god why.

"But you can all call me Mrs. C." she clarifies.

Oh god bless.

Once Mrs. C starts talking and handing out the syllabus, Jonas hands me a small piece of folded paper.

"Passing notes, what are you five?" I whisper to him jokingly.

"Shut up and read it." he whispers back, kicking my shin.

I unfold the paper, which reads: "wanna come to my house after school? no Fortnite, i swear."

I chuckle quietly, he's definitely as dorky as I remember.
I glance at Jonas who's smiling because I laughed. I make a thumbs up from under the table and he nods and turns back to face the front as Mrs. C gets to our table.
