"Addison!" I hear a familiar bubbly voice call out from behind me. I turn around with a huge smile on my face. "Who's fired up?" I shout. "I'm fired up!" my best friend Bree replies excitedly, running to give me a huge hug. We saw each other just yesterday, but there's always a level of enthusiasm associated with her.

We exchange arms and skip down the sidewalk. I met Bree freshman year. The moment I saw her, I knew we would become fast friends. Bree is a shining light, someone who practically drags positive energy with her wherever she goes. Initially, we had joined the cheer squad at Seabrook High. However, I soon realised that my dream of becoming a star cheerleader just wouldn't be fulfilled, at least not under Bucky's rule.

In the end though, everyone and everything unexpectedly came together at the cheerleading championships.

The reason we had gotten kicked out prior to the cheerleading championships was because I defied Bucky, my dramatic and very talented cousin, in order to support zombies, which at the time, were just being integrated into our school and community. They were receiving a ton of hate, and no one had done anything about it.

That was, until I decided to stand.

Speaking of zombies, my boyfriend is one.

I met Zed in a zombie safe room thanks to an intriguing series of events and was immediately attracted to his charm, good looks and eagerness to tarnish any bad views I had about zombies. He's funny, clever, and has enough swag to become the next Soulja Boy.

He's in college now, and everyday I miss him and love him more.

Bree breaks me out of my trance by slapping my arm repeatedly. "Woah woah" I giggle, removing her hand and adjusting my short ponytail. I haven't worn my wig since the astonishing reveal at the homecoming game, and I've been enjoying my unique white hair since then.

Bree rolls her eyes and points in front of me. I frown, confused, and glance in the same direction she's pointing. I don't see anything peculiar. There's our school, there's students milling around, thousands of clubs...there's...there's...

"No way" I mutter under my breath.

The figure I've noticed slowly moves towards me with his pale hands in his pockets. Closer and closer he comes, and my suspicions are slowly brought to reality.

"Zed!" I yell, throwing myself into his embrace. "Addi" he whispers into my hair, wrapping his arms around me. "What are you doing here?" I look up into his dark eyes. I had seen him in June, but for the month of July he had been actively participating in an integration program in a whole other country. If he hadn't come now, I wouldn't have seen him until December. "I couldn't let you start your first day of senior year alone. The university hasn't started up official classes yet so I thought I'd stay with you and your parents for a week" he smirks. The idea seemed impossible, especially considering the fact that my folks had never been all that fond of Zed (at least in his zombie form). "Lies" I grin, failing to hold in my immense smile.

"No lie" Zed kisses my forehead. I hug him again, but before we can kiss, the bell rings. I catch Bree's eye and she motions me to come on. Being late wouldn't be a good idea. Knowing I would be in a hurry to get to class, Zed speaks up. "I'll be home when you get out, okay?" he winks. I blush, beginning to walk off. "How am I supposed to focus now?" I cup my palms around my lips, directing my rhetorical question towards my boyfriend, who never fails to surprise me.
