As I expected, my attention span has decreased significantly. All I can think about is how nice it is going to be to live with Zed for a week. I know I have school, but I can't stop fantasising over what we could possibly do in that period of time. We could recreate our smoothie date. Sing Someday on repeat. Attempt to make traditional zombie dishes. The list goes on and on.

The day seemed to stumble along. My academic classes were a bore and my extracurriculars felt like too much work. I just wanted to see my boyfriend!

The entire last period, I stare at the clock and tap my foot along to each minute hand's movement until it eventually turns to 3:45.

I AM OUT OF THE PRISON !

I basically lunge my bag over my shoulder and speed out of that classroom like a true track legend. Usually, I walk home with Bree and Bonzo (Zed's zombie friend and Bree's soulmate, who got held back a year because of his still prominent fear of fire). However, I'm sure they'll get it if I travel solo. Bree has been there to support me considering Zed for as long as I can remember, and there's no reason for her to stop now.

Smiling to myself, I run home and up my perfectly patterned stairs. Upon bursting in to the lobby, I'm greeted with a scene I never thought I'd see...

...Zed and my parents sitting together around the set table, having an open conversation about who knows what.

I raise an eyebrow and Zed looks up, his eyes lightening when he sees me. He excuses himself and gets up to give me another hug. Hugs from Zed never get old, and he's gotten a lot better at them since the first time I embraced him at that first football game he ever had.

Zed pulls away to kiss my forehead. "Believe me now?" he cocks his head towards my mom and dad and I giggle and nod. My dad clears his throat. "Your mom and I are going to go out on a date tonight. Life has always been on the run for us so we thought it'd be nice if we settled down for a little while" he exclaims. Mom narrows her eyes. "No sex in the kitchen" she mutters, but it's loud enough (isn't it always) for Zed to hear. He chuckles. "No sex in the kitchen" he repeats in order to satisfy my mom. "Ok ok, so that date right?" I check my phone. It's exactly 4:15 and I estimate if they leave now my parents will get back by 9 or 10. Sweet.

"Yes" my dad jumps up and pats my mom, who still seems suspicious.

"Have fun kids" Zed jokes as they leave the house bickering over whether or not they're being too overprotective or too easygoing.

When the door closes, Zed flicks my hair . "I have a really dope day planned" he puffs up his chest and puts his hands in a frat boy stance.

"Doper than Zombieland?" I smile, reminiscing to the time Zed brought me and went against the rule book.

He waggles his eyebrows. "Why yes, yes doper than Zombieland" Zed leads me to my room, which he's visited plenty of times before to watch offensive zombie flicks or talk until our mouths and ears hurt.

I lay my bag down in awe when I see what Zed has organised. Or disorganised, rather. My usually clean room is littered with romantic candles, the ceiling is covered in a dark green canopy, homemade miniature zombie skulls
are all over the floor and polaroids of every captured moment we've ever had is posted on the wall in the shape of "Addi".

"Baby" I breathe, not knowing what else to say. "Do you like it?" for once, Zed actually sounds nervous. "No" I shake my head. He puts his head down. "I...I love it" I plant a kiss on his lips and he cups his hands around my face, returning the favor.

It doesn't get any more heated, because suddenly Zed pulls from my vanity behind him a movie: Oh My Zombie!. It came out last year, and when Zed was still at Seabrook High, that was all we ever watched together. "Smooth" I have to give it to him. This is all very charming; the epitome of Zed.

We catapult onto my bed, which I later discover is filled with tulip petals. Zed flips on the TV and like it had already been set to go, the movie begins.

The two of us sit and cuddle there. We crack jokes, cry at the kiss scene and praise the accurate depictions of zombies, which had only started to be properly represented in films made by "regulars" a few years ago.

And when Oh My Zombie! ended, I didn't want it to.

I thought the night was over.

But Zed sits right up and grins at me. "I'll be right back. I have to get a few things from the store" he states mysteriously. I pout but he just smiles and promises me he'll return soon.

Sighing, I watch him as he leaves and once he's out of sight, I fumble for something to do. I decide to get up and circle my room so I can get a good look at all of the pictures. Dance parties, festivals, cheerleading comps, football games, anniversary dates in the zombie safe room where we had met. Everything, well almost everything, we had ever done was there.

My heart wells with happiness.

Suddenly I hear a crash. I try to heighten my auditory senses, attempting to locate the source of it. The sound appeared to have come from my mom's office, so I cautiously step out of my bed and turn a few corridors to arrive at her big brass doors. I try to push them open, but I am not expecting success. Mom generally keeps her office locked, especially when she is out of the house.

But no, it opens right up. There is nothing peculiar. It looks like a pretty average office. A computer, a copier, bookcases and ancient rugs complete the atmosphere. Nothing seems to have crash. Maybe I had just heard something that wasn't there. Just in case I wasn't crazy, I tiptoe to the center of the main rug. Nothing. And just when I figure I am going insane, I hear a crash. This time it is easier to pinpoint. Directly in front of me. I step closer, and place my hand on an empty bookcase, which abruptly pulls me into a dark room. I hear the bookcase close behind me and it reminds me exactly of something similar to the movies I had watched as a kid.

I have just stumbled into a random room and I don't know what to do about it.
