"Carlin! No! You can't date him! I won't allow it!" I roll my eyes at my brother as he pulls, out of the McDonalds drive thru.
"I'm almost 16! I can choose who I date and-" he interrupts me.
"I said no. I don't trust the guy! I heard he's on drugs..."
"They always are" I mutter under my breath. I actually like the guy... Why can't my brother just accept that I can date people?
"Now pass the ketchup please?" I reluctantly pass over a pack of ketchup and he tears it open with the corner of his mouth.
"Asher?..."
"Mmm," he sounds
while biting into a fry.
"Couldn't you just talk to the guy I mean he's-" he interrupted me once again.
"No. I don't like him, the people he hangs out with aren't for you okay? Your my little sister... I promise you, he's not for you." when he says something like that it means shut up.

We pull up to my friend Lexis house about ten minutes later and Asher grabs my bag from the back for me.
"Now. No guys right?" he tilts his head down and looks me in the eyes.
"Right." I fake a smile.
"Okay! I love, love, love you! Stay safe and have fun!" he leans to give me a kiss on the forehead.
"Love you too! Bye," I wave as I shut the car door and walk up to their front door.
"Carlin!!!" Lexi squeals and wraps me in a bear hug.
"Hi-" I squeak in her grip.
"The others are upstairs!" she looks around as to check for anyone listening or any hidden video cameras. "Were getting ready for the guys! They're coming over tonight after my parents leave!" She winks.
"But- Lexi! I told my brother there would be no guys..."
"Shush! Stop being such a goody goody!" We both laugh and I follow her upstairs.
*************************
"Alright! -- yea. -- love you too! -- bye mom!" Lexi hangs up the phone and turns to smile mysteriously at us.
"Alright! The guys will be over in ten!" I'm actually nervous at what would happen if my brother finds out guys came over. My fingers begin to throb at how tight I'm squeezing the purple feather pillow and my friends faint voices echo in the background.
"- Taylor Crow" those words pop out from their conversation and my ears are able to refocus.
"Who?" I speak up.
"Taylor Crow! Ya know that fine boy?!" Shailene bats her eyes towards me. I know the name... Of course I do! Everyone's been talking about him... "The new kid".
"Yea, the new guy right?" They all nod in response. Just after I've let the thought settle in a loud, fierce knock sounds on the door.
Lexis laughs and runs ahead of us down the stairs. Shailene, Christina, and Darien all run after her while I slow my pace and follow a few feet behind.
The door opens and three guys stand before us. James Micheal, Clayce Williams, and Taylor Crow (the new kid). I stop.
Everyone says Taylor is about the finest boy you'll see but of course I let the rumors slip. I now see, that was no rumor.
My mouth opens slightly for seconds at the view. James and Clayce are just props on the side. His dark brown hair falls loosely over the top of his forehead and his blue eyes are like waves cascading in the deepest, clearest ocean. He notices me staring.
The corners of his mouth point up and a smirk plasters over his face. I quickly shut my own mouth and look away. I still see the smirk from a side view but I refuse to give myself the pleasure of looking back. There aren't even supposed to be guys here! Much less guys that I'm attracted to
after only seeing them for a few split seconds.
