"How was school today honey?" My mom yells from the kitchen as I kick the door shut behind me and drop my backpack next to my shoes. I walk into the kitchen and open the fridge to get a yogurt. I close the fridge door and search for a plastic spoon through the drawers.
"Same as usual." I say as I finally found a plastic spoon. I don't like metal spoons. It just bothers me to eat something so delicious with a metal taste. So I settle with plastic spoons instead.
"You sure nothing new happened today? Usually you storm up to your room and ignore my question about school." She says as she dices the onions. I pause. Darn it, she knows me so well. Leaning over the counter, I give a small 'hm' and look at her innocently. She glances over at me and continues cutting. "So tell me."
I shove a spoon full of yogurt and swallow.
"I think I made a friend today," I smile softly to myself. My mom abruptly stops cutting the onions and swivels around to face me. "Oh really?"
My mom's face broke into a smile and starts jumping up and down. "What's her name?" She beamed. I eyed her up and down slowly and squint.
"His name is Aiden." I say shoving another spoonful of yogurt. My mom gapes at me with wide eyes. Then she suddenly break into another fit of giggles as she jumps up and down.
I cringe.
"Can you stop jumping? All I see is your boobs bouncing everywhere." I grumbled sticking my tongue out. It's pretty weird seeing your mom having humungus boobs fly all over the place. I shiver. Gross. She stops jumping and gives me a look. That one look that says, 'Stop-making-fun-of-my-giant-boobs'. I snicker.
"You should invite him over for dinner tonight." She says turning around to continue preparing dinner.
If only I have his number.
Finishing my last spoon of yogurt, I swallow once again and ignore her idea. "Nah, not tonight."
I throw my yogurt cup away and head towards the stairs to my room.
"Before you go upstairs, can you go to the grocery store and get me some milk and pancake mix?"
Milk and pancake mix? I slowly turn around on my heels and give Janice Compton a wide eyed stare. Is this real? Oh my gosh yes pancakes for tomorrow morning. Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes. "Yes!" I screamed.
My mom chuckles and shakes her head knowing my love for pancakes is beyond infinite. I slip my shoes on and slide into my thin jacket while grabbing my car keys. I slam the door shut behind me and run to the car. If it's pancakes, nothing else matters.
Pancakes, I'm coming for you. I turn on the engine and speed down the street towards Wal-mart.
My name Is Gail Elise Compton. I am a 17 year old senior girl living in a small town called Danville. Danville is in Kentucky. You may be wondering if I am a country girl. I can assure you, I am NOT country. I just find it rude when people assume that you are country when you are from Kentucky. Yeah sure we have farms and horses, but we do have some big cities like Louisville. If you were to live in Danville, you can reconize anyone who is anybody in a snap.
Danville only has one high school.
Danville High School, home of the Tigers.
Of course, it's pretty stupid having a tiger as the face of a high school. I find it way too mainstream (in my opinion anyway). We do have a mascot. A scrwany little boy named Kyle is the school's mascot. I pity him. One time, I remember seeing him in the middle of the feild, drunk off of beer yelling 'CHEETAS' instead of 'Tigers' like he is supposed to. He then passed out and gotten suspended for two weeks.
