1986. Junior year. It was time to start stressing about college, but not completely. You still felt so far away from it, and that was if you even got accepted. Some put in applications now, some decided to wait until senior year, others waited a few years - or didn't go at all.
People began dropping out, and cliques where tighter than ever. It was the second last year of what was supposedly the best years of your life. For River, it was what felt like the opposite. He didn't know it would help him.
Moving from hot, sunny California to cold, winter-y Canada was never in his life plan. It seemed slightly better in the long run, so he tried not to complain. In California, his house was run down and falling apart, his new house was only a few years old, it looked and felt nice.
He didn't mind it so much so far, the weather was nice. It wasn't as warm as Cali, but it was bearable.
He spent the entirety of August at his new home, reading, writing, playing music. He went out a few times with his family, just to see around his new city. He thought the people talked kind of funny, but he knew he was the one with the funny accent, not them.
River had gotten everything ready for his first day of school. Notebooks, binder, pens, pencils, calculator, erasers, highlighters - everything he could think of. He had everything he needed, but he didn't feel ready. Something was missing, but it wasn't part of his school supplies.
