This is gonna be bad, lol, wreck it
___Mia thought about missing school today. She had every right, really. She was a Shane and today was significant for the Shane's. But she didn't. If she had, it would have meant that she still cared for him and she didn't. She wouldn't. So when she went over to her friends and they didn't even seem to remember what today was, she gave them all a smile. Well, nearly all of them forgot.
"You're here?" Rosetta asked, keeping her voice low so that the others wouldn't hear. They were outside the bigger circle that the others had formed, giving them some type of privacy. Mia wasn't even shocked that Rosetta remembered, she always remembered.
"I am," Mia stated firmly. Rosetta could sense she didn't want to talk about it so she returned to the larger circle, Mia following close behind. When she was with her friends, it was always easy to keep her mind busy.
"Hey, Mia, now that you're here, should we all go over to sign up for the Winter Ball Organisation Committee?" Annabelle asked, looking around the circle to see nods in agreement. "Cool, let's go."
They all went to the front entrance to the building known as the celebration hall. It was actually called Dimmhouse because of some guy who had sponsored the building but none of the kids or the teachers really cared as the only times they used the building was just for events or, surprise, celebrations.
It was a one level building, enough to fit roughly 120 kids comfortably in the main room. The exterior stood out against all the other much older buildings around the school as it was officially finished two years ago. Windows were along the entire side of the back of the building, giving everyone a good look in, unless the school decided to draw the curtains, which they always did. The view wasn't that great either, from the inside as it was just a plain field with trees along the sides of it to mark the school grounds.
Once they finished putting their names on the sign-up sheet, which thankfully had no other names on it, they turned to go to their usual spot. Their 'spot' was just two benches outside of the maths' block that they had unofficially proclaimed as theirs just from the frequent visits that took place during break and lunch. If someone wanted to talk to Mia or her friends, they'd go there. The Charming Lads obviously wanted to talk to them or just didn't know that that was their bench.
"Hello," Fiona welcomed the boys politely when the girls reached the benches. Fiona was always the polite, well-mannered one with not a bad bone in her body. Not saying that the others were bad, but that she was simply better at being a good child. Delilah didn't even bother to look at them twice and went on her phone to refresh The Custodian newspaper app.
"Hey, Flutter Friends," Jasper chided in a musical manner. Rosetta grimaced at the name a little.
Since Primary School, all the groups had been assigned a 'label' by the Cutie Girls. It made things easier to organise for them and everyone naturally went with it. Mia and her friends were stuck with the title 'Flutter Friends' because in Primary school, they used to wear matching butterfly clips and they had recently learnt the language technique, alliteration. They all knew without a shadow of a doubt that the Cutie Girls were very proud of that name to this date and if the Flutter Friends were honest, they used to love that name as well. Mia still did secretly.
"What would you like, Charming Lads?" Mia asked trying to copy Fiona's politeness but it just made her sound sarcastic. Daniel chuckled lowly.
"What makes you think that we want something? Maybe we just want to hang out. There aren't any hostilities between us, now, are there?" He smirked, staring at Mia.
"No, there aren't any," Mia replied, not backing down from this staring contest. "Yet, anyway." She knew she shouldn't have said that, there wasn't anything wrong with the boys but they obviously wanted something.
Find out what the Charming Lads want, Mia thought, hoping Rosetta was listening. Daniel just continued to smirk at her but looked away as he went to pluck a white rose from his blazer pocket.
"For you, Mia," he handed her the rose and she immediately dropped it. He had whispered her name and it forced her to take a step back.
"Sorry," she forced out when he bent down to pick it up and hand it to her again. She didn't let go of it this time. The other boys began handing their roses to the girls. A lavender rose for Rosetta from Abriel, a yellow rose for Fiona from Jasper, a orange rose for Delilah from Ronan and a peach rose for Annabelle from Noah. They all said thank you, because they were all still polite, and some of them were more genuine than others.
Delilah didn't even acknowledge Ronan and just took the rose. When he realised he was going to get nothing, his face conformed into sadness and Delilah didn't even hide her grimace. It wasn't that he had an ugly face; if he did he wouldn't be apart of the infamous Charming Lads. Delilah simply didn't recognise the entire human spectrum of emotions excluding disappointment, disdain and derision, according to everyone who wasn't the Flutter Friends.
"Can we give these back?" Annabelle asked with a hopeful smile on her innocent face.
"Nope," Noah replied, popping the p.
"We must though, we all have a severe allergy to pollen 'cause of darn hay fever, you wouldn't want to kill us now, would-" Mia begun but got interrupted.
"We don't have Hay-" Fiona was stopped by a glare from Mia.
"We thought that you would say that, so here are some fausses fleurs," Abriel stated smugly, ignoring Fiona, as he switched the real flower for a fake flower. Where did he even pull these out? Rosetta thought but thanked Abriel nevertheless for the fake flower and the unneeded French. The other guys followed suit.
"Why the flowers?" Annabelle asked.
"We understand that these flowers have no comparison compared to you, belle," Noah flirted with Annabelle while she raised an eyebrow at the nickname.
"Yeah, cause we aren't fake," Mia muttered under her breath but everyone just ignored her except for Fiona who giggled.
"But we thought we would at least try to tell you how beautiful you are, even if words are not enough." Annabelle tried to hold back her cringe, she really did. An awkward smile was the result, and the message was clearly written on her face. Please stop! But it seemed that Noah was illiterate.
"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and summer's lease hath all too short a date: Sometime too hot the eye-"
"Thank you," Annabelle cut him off before he could continue with the love sonnet. "As much as I appreciate... um, all of whatever that was-"
"You do," Noah sighed with relief, "It took me all of last night to learn that."
"Yes, anyway," Annabelle cleared her throat slightly, very uncomfortable. "We must be going, we have to sign up for the Winter Ball Orginisation Committee."
"No we do not-" Fiona was once again cut off by this time, Annabelle glaring at her.
"You signed up for the Organisation Committee?" Jasper inquired. All the girls realised the mistake that had just occurred. Before any of the girls could rectify it, the boys were waving them goodbye and walking towards the entrance of the celebration hall.
The rose incident had concluded a key fact to the Flutter Friends."We're fucked," Mia stated, voicing their thoughts. They all nodded their heads in agreement and looked at the ground solemnly.
"I'm friends with idiots," mumbled Delilah, the first thing she had spoken since Mia arrived. The girls were about to defend themselves when they were stopped.
A sudden screech from the celebration hall brought their gazes from Delilah to the Cutie Girls smiling in a very suggestive manner to the Charming Lads who were paralysed by fear. Once they realised their situation, the boys begun to try to hide behind each other and it was failing miserably. The Cutie Girls just laughed while they flipped their hair and cooing slightly. This seemed to terrify the boys even more as they probably thought that the Cutie Girls found their fear, well, cute. That was when an idea came to Mia.
