New Smells

The next day at school I tried to avoid Misty at all costs. Yeah, yeah. Dick move. But I just needed some time to think about what I was going to do. Of course, with her overwhelming personality it was impossible to avoid her.

When the bell rang after first period I went to my locker. Misty was standing in front of it, fuming.

"Really? First you faint like a little bitch when I tell you I'm pregnant-" I tried to shush her. No need for word to get out. "-and now you're avoiding me? Cool."

I sighed and pushed my hand through my thick hair.

"I'm sorry, Misty. I just have a lot on my plate right now. I need some time to think about what I'm going to do."

Her face softened. "Do you mean what we're going to do?"

I was about to respond when a scent tickled my nose. It was mouthwatering, almost edible, but also beautiful in a perfumed way. It was a mixture of orchids and grass and dirt and everything good in the world. I had no idea a new werewolf was coming to town.

Could this be my mate? I thought it would feel different... More than just an awesome scent. But, at the time being, I couldn't really think about anything else but that awesome smell.

I walked away, Misty shouting my name. I could barely hear her, however. I was too entranced by the smell.

I approached the Principal's office and reached for the handle just as a girl who I had never seen did. She was beautiful, but in a dangerous way. She was petite, but not fragile. Her hand was warm to the touch, but not full of the tingles I thought I'd get when I met my mate.

Her blue eyes narrowed underneath the frames of her glasses as we touched and she gruffly grunted "Excuse me."

I stood, star struck, at her timeless beauty and amazing scent.

"Uh, son, excuse me," Mrs. Shale, the librarian, stood looking at me like I was asolutely nuts.

That snapped me out of it. "Oh shit, sorry Mrs. Shale. Can I help you with that?"

Her eyes narrowed at my slip of the tongue but she said nothing about it. "Yes, here ye go," She shoved the large pile of books that she held into my arms. Although with my extra wolf strength it was quite easy for me to hold, I wondered how the ancient Mrs. Shale managed to lift them.

Shaking my head, I followed Mrs. Shale to the Principal's office and dropped them on the secretary's desk. The girl was in the Principal's office, listening to him drone about the school rules. The ruffling of papers told me that was handed her schedule, and she walked out of his office.

I opened the door for her, peeking over her shoulder at her schedule. "Hey, we have some classes together!" I told her.

She met my eyes, and I felt warmth in my chest.

I had to know this girl.

I had to know if this was my mate.
