Nova's face said it all; the pale skin, tear stained face, and hands clasped over her mouth. She was terrified. Casa was the little "sister" that always bugged her, but she was also the one that would agree with her on most things; that saw through her perspective. She was more mature than Matt.
"WHAT'S HAPPENING TO CASA?! DO SOMETHING!"
If anything tragic would befall Casa, Nova would be depressed; even yelling at Dr. Smoothe couldn't help. As she thought this, Samual walked over to her with a clip board in hand. He peered deep into her soul, infecting her with a feeling of bad news. Nurses and doctors alike wheeled Casa out of the room on a metal bed, with her gasping for air. Nova tried to escape from the metal table that was her captor. That only ended badly for her, Dr. Smoothe walked over and attached the additional chains to her ankles and wrists. They weighed her down. Her face twitched in anger. She wasn't going to be even more chained down than she already was; especially when not knowing what was happening to Casa. Samual then told her what was happening:
"I'm afraid that Casa is reacting badly to the virus we injected in her. We had thought that she would survive long enough for an antidote to be created, but our tests show that Casa will not make it through the night. We have two options; we can inject her with some of your blood and hope for the best, or we can let her die. Your choice."
A terrifying grin was etched into his face. Nova swallowed loudly, she already knew what she had to do.
" Take some of my blood."
She thrust her arm as far out as the chains would allow. Dr. Smoothe nodded to a nearby Nurse who ran over quickly and jabbed a needle through her skin, extracting a pint of blood. Nova felt drained and exhausted. Trying to save her sister, and the remaining human population, took a toll; her sleep. Now she felt as though she could drift into a dream. Then Samuel did something unexpected. He bent down slowly, closed his eyes, and kissed her. It was a light kiss, but it surely surprised Nova. Her exhaustion dwindled away. The two broke from their kiss.
"Excuse you?!"
She thrashed and kicked against her restrainers. They were heavy, cold, and bared down on her like a million boulders.
"What gives you the right to kiss me?!'
Dr. Smoothe looked at her lovingly.
"The fact that you won't remember any of this is a good reason for me to express my feelings for you".
He then winked and kissed her again before she could protest. This time he put his hand on the back of her neck as they kissed. Nova was speechless. This all was progressing too fast. She nudged him with her head, and not lightly, enough to break the kiss. In a forceful tone, Nova declared what would happen.
"Stop. Enough. You can't just kiss any girl you want, whether or not she'll remember it. Besides, how do you know I won't remember it?"
He just smiled and the Nurse that was drawing her blood pressed something cool into her skin; a needle. She pumped something into her and once again, exhaustion threatened to overtake her.
"Because when you wake up, you won't remember what you think you remember."
And Nova's lids drew over her sky blue eyes, and she was out to the world.
