When Mr. Mendes returned from Mr. Williams' office I began to appreciate his striking physique. He had jet black trousers on with a pristine white dress shirt, which perfectly tugged his toned chest in all the right places.
"Stop it Eleanor, he's your teacher for Christ sake" I thought to myself, while he innocently leant on the doorframe still talking to Mr. Williams, unaware of my invasive staring.
Their conversation ended and Mr. Mendes shut the door behind him, spinning round on his heels to face me. I blushed when I felt his eyes on me for a moment.
"Shall we make our way home then?" He suggested
"Yeah, let's get out of here"
Soon, we were at the car park. There was only his car there so it was not hard for me to guess the right one. He drove a black Jeep Wrangler. I guess he didn't have a flashy car, you know the ones CEOs have, because he was so young. I did love it though.
He opened the passengers door for me and I clambered in, not looking graceful in anyway way shape or form. The car was so far off the ground I had to hoist myself up and into the cool leather seat. Whilst he walked around the front of the car, I took a second to notice the things his car contained. He had a half opened packet of chewing gum in one of the cup holders and a few albums on the dashboard. Ed Sheeran, Chance the Rapper and John Mayer, hmm, interesting.
He opened the drivers door and got in too. His entrance was a lot smoother than mine because he was so tall.
"You okay? Got everything?" He asked while looking over at me.
"Yeah, just need to get my seatbelt on."
"So which way am I going?"
"25 Abbey Road, please, are you sure this isn't too far out of your way?"
"Abbey road? I've just moved there!"
"Great!" I said excitedly, then pausing "it's not too much trouble then."
"Not at all Eleanor. Not at all"
He pulled out of the car park and drove down the road. I took in the wonderful manly smell of him and his car. When I had mustered up the courage, I looked over and him while he was driving, eyes completely on the road, I wonder what he was thinking about.
Shortly after, we had arrived at my house and Mr. Mendes had just brought the car to a halt.
"If you don't mind me asking, which one do you live at?" I asked trying to break the silence, and spend a few seconds longer with him.
"This one" he replied with a smile tugging at his lips.
He gestured to the house that was exactly opposite mine, on the other side of the street. Of course.
"Well, that'll be handy if I need help with your lengthy assignments"
He laughed and shook his head slightly.
"Right, I'm gonna get in, they're probably be wondering where I am." I said while reaching for the door.
As I did so, I felt a warm hand gently tug at my wrist. I flicked my head back to look at him and we made serious eye contact.
"Eleanor, don't tell anyone about this, please."
"Of course, Sir."
And with that I got out of his jeep and ran happily inside my house. I waved him goodbye as I shut the door behind me, he gave me a small sweet smile and began to drive away.
I walked into the usually immaculate kitchen, only to find it in a complete state. I looked at my mum, who was covered in flour and other unidentifiable ingredients. She looked stressed.
"What's up mum?" I asked with a concerned look on my face
"Oh, you're home, you made me jump" she said, laughing a little. "We're having Shawn round for tea tonight and everything is nowhere near ready, forget about tidy"
"Do you want any help?" I asked sympathetically, wondering who Shawn was.
"God yes, thank you, you're a life saver!" She let out a relieved sigh.
I started wiping down the counters and setting cutlery whilst Mum furiously stirred various pots and pans, placed things in the oven and washed up seemingly all at the same time.
"So how do you know Shawn? I don't think you've mentioned him before." I said trying to get her to shed a little light on the situation.
"His parents are friends of the family, we've known them since forever and when we found out he was moving here your Dad and I felt we just had to make him feel welcome." She explained.
"Oh cool, should I stay? I can easily go to Hannah's if you guys wanna catch up."
"No no don't be silly" she replied almost immediately, "you should get to know him, I think he'll like you"
As soon as she finished her sentence, the door bell rang. I looked at my mum and gestured my outfit, My top was covered in just about every ingredient that was in the kitchen. She pointed upstairs.
"I'll make up an excuse for you, go and change your top" She giggled
I raced up the stairs and turned the corner into my bedroom, quickly changed so my outfit consisted of a flowing white Bardot top and dark blue skinny jeans.
When I eventually came downstairs again my parents were greeting the unknown man. I couldn't make him out because he had his back to me, I went downstairs anyway.
In our family we always greet anyone who comes into our house with a hug, so that's naturally what I did. I stood behind him, waiting for him to turn around so I could make whoever it was feel welcome with a friendly hug. The mystery man turned around. My jaw dropped open. It was Mr. Mendes! Following the chain of interactions that had happened before him, he leant in to hug me. My heart began to pound. Before I knew it I was wrapped up in his warm embrace; I instantly felt calmer. He let go and gave me a small smile.
"Hello Eleanor."
