Born in Fuzhou, China, Rowoon grew up with a large family with many relatives and siblings. His parents had to look after his younger siblings so they didn't really care of what he did and how he got things done. he got mixed in with bad company but got out of it with some help and he started to go study in a school in Fuzhou — that only offered performing arts and calligraphy — to get rid of his bad habits. He picked up both songwriting and calligraphy and realised that he had talent in singing and songwriting. So at the age of 15, he decided to borrow some money from relatives and his closer siblings to move to Korea so continue pursuing his dreams. he was short on money and stayed in a cheap motel for many weeks while working as a street performer singing his own songs when he got scouted by Starship 2 months later.
