Alone Yet Loved

Chapter one:

Abby is sitting alone on the edge of a secluded cliff side, staring down below at the rageing river that divides the vast ravean listening to the sound of the waterfall hitting the rocky wall on it's way down, wondering how it would feel to be that falling water.

One of her friends sneaks up behind her, ignoring the restricted area signs poster everywhere.

It's restricted due to the cliff being highly unstable and the earthquakes they get in the area year round make it worse, go figure right.

It's the middle of the night, but Abby and a bunch of her so called "friends" followed her. They are all being stupid and getting drunk and some of them are getting stoned. The only sober ones are her real friends, Dylan and Becca and her best friend Nate. The four of them are sitting on the edge of the cliff staring down at the rivers rushing water below them.

Becca says, "I can't believe Kenny brought booze! I guess Stefanie bringing drugs was kind of a given though."

They hear foot steps behind them, Dylan glares up to see Kenny. He tries to hand them some beer. Abby smacks his hand away sending the alcohol flying down towards the river. She glares at him.

Abby sternly tells Kenny, "ken...what the hell is wrong with you?! You're going to get everyone in trouble...for one your underage and you are giving minor's alcohol! Not to mention we are in a restricted area, and if we get caught that alone would get us in trouble! But you are giving minors alcohol you could go to jail!"

Kenny just smirked at her saying, "if you're so worried about getting into trouble then why don't you just go home. I'm sure Nate wouldn't mind taking you home, while you're at it take Becca with you...or you could loosen up and have a drink!"

Abby tries to get up out of rage, but Becca and Dylan stopped her. So she ignored him and sat in silence with her friends. She pulls out her phone to look at the time, it says, 1:00am so she lies on her back watching the sunrise. Becca lets out a content sigh, and the other to start laughing.

Dylan says, "I wish this moment didn't have to end, I'm having so much fun. But if my mom found out that I snuck out I would be in so much trouble. Hah but I'm happy i snuck out. I don't wanna go home!"

Abby and Becca both wince at the word home. He gave them a sympathetic look. Abby hasn't had a place to call home since she was nine. That's when her father left her a note, and her mother called her worthless.

That night still haunts her, thou bit by bit the horror of that night is fading. Dylan lets Abby crash at his place sometimes, Becca stays with her friend Nate and his family. Dylan's family got Abby into a good school, after legally adopting her. It's really nice of them but Abby still feels like she doesn't belong.

She doesn't feel at home in that house, she feels more at home in the woods on a cliff side river. Dylan puts his arm around her. Dylan is like her older brother, he always looks out for her.

He asks her, "Abby...are you okay? I know you don't consider my home as your home and you don't like talking about what happened with your parents, but i still have to ask, what happened, how is it that you are all alone."

She looked to her friends, contemplating to tell them her story. After thinking about it for a while, she decides she can trust them.

She says, "ever since i was little i remember getting strange looks, cold looks from my parents. They always looked at me in anger or disgust. I'll never understand what i did that was so horrible. When i turned nine, my parents came home late, mom was drunk but that was nothing new.
