My dad died when I was five years old. He had lung cancer and had been diagnosed too late. I barely remember him, but what I do remember is the last thing he said to me, right before he flat lined.

"Be brave and bold and kind, my little girl" he said, barely a whisper.

"Never forget daddy loves you"

My parents had divorced when I was three. I had lived with him. Mom had only visitation right for that is all she wanted. Even then, she had not wanted to take care of me and instead gave me to my paternal grandmother. I was too much work for her and her job needed a hundred percent of her attention. She was a struggling artist. I had lived blissfully with Mamie till I was twelve when Mamie too left me.

Mom had taken the responsibility then because for one she had nobody else who would take me in, and second, I was not so small and she didn't have to do so many things for me. It has been five years since then and I couldn't wait to get out of her grasp.

Daddy had left me a substantial inheritance, but mom had control of part of it until I finished college or until I had children. Mom was a nightmare, she was never there even though she didn't work. We lived off my college money. When I did things right she never acknowledge them, but always when I did things wrong, and she would criticize and then we would fight. Then there was my allowance, it was barely enough to cover school food every week. No money for projects outings of clothes. She said that she was teaching me to be poor, I might not always have enough money. To top it all I always had to clean up after her every single time.

I couldn't wait till college and that is how the baby plan was born.

1. Get the "bad boy to notice me"

2. Sleep with the "bad boy"

3. Get pregnant by this "bad boy"

4. Inherit Daddy's money

5. Move out of Mom's house and live the way I want

6. And Oh yes give the baby up for adoption.

It was not perfect but it was doable. I wasn't what boys referred to as beautiful but I was pretty enough with makeup on and had what I considered a very nice body, plus the infamous "bad boy" (he wasn't that bad) Cameron Henry had a reputation for sleeping with any one once he was drunk enough. He had the perfect profile. Missed school all the time, had been to juvie and probably wouldn't want anything to do with the baby, not that he will find out.
