Morning had come, and the strange dream was still on my mind. No one had awoken, and I decided to use this to my advantage. I got up quietly and snuck over everyone's sleeping bodies, I almost stepped on someone's hand, but quickly went the other direction. I got to the basement, and grabbed a map of the Forest where the ravine was. This should do, I thought. I sprinted toward the West Door, silent and stealthily. Once I had gotten into the Forest, I followed the path Mihpo had used, using my memory to guide me through. Things seemed different in the early morning, the birds weren't singing, and the flowers were all closed up, and it wasn't as warm as it was last time. This is kind of weird... I tried to remember where Mihpo veered off the trail, but it all looked foreign to me. I decided to go off by a small tree and a couple of bushes, and continue to walk until I found the ravine. Dammit, I hope I don't get lost. Well, I was wrong about getting lost. The ravine seemed bigger, more wide than last time. But still it's scary dark self. I crept to the side and looked down, it seemed miles and miles and miles down... then blackness. I shivered and went away from the edge. Why is it calling me here.... I looked around to make sure no one was following me. I sat by the edge, trying to figure things out inside my mind, but everything was blurry. I glanced at my watch. Shit, Mihpo is going to be awake any minute now. I jumped up, and bolted toward the direction of the Glade.
I got back just in time and curled up in my sleeping bag, and closed my eyes. I soon heard Mihpo approaching to "wake" me up. That was a close one. "Wake up bugs." He nudged me with his foot, and I sprang up. That must of scared him because he stepped back and almost shrieked. I laughed. "Damn, don't ever do that again. Come on." He said with a glare, and headed toward the basement. I followed him, holding back a laugh.
Training was exhausting and kind of boring. But I was still fascinated at how Mihpo could run for so long before collapsing. I was panting by the time we took a break. Mihpo laughed, "You'll get used to runnin' soon enough bugs." I always wondered why he called me bugs, but I just stuck with it. I drank half of my water bottle and hungrily ate my apple. "Mihpo... have you ever seen the ravine expand? Do you know where it leads to?" I said curiously. "Nope. No one has ever stayed out during the night. Too dangerous." He said as he crunched into his apple. "Couldn't we stay out during the night? Why is it so dangerous?" I said. "No. Never ever! Do you want to be teared apart by the Cutters?!" He angrily said at me, I looked to the side, regretting I asked that. "No, I don't." I squeaked. "Good. Don't ever try anything like that, or you're as good as dead. Now c'mon, more training to do." He said and got up. I got up too, and we continued to train.
Evening was falling and we were heading back. I was sweating, but thank god the cool evening air was coming in. I drank the rest of my water, and grumbled that there was none left. "You should've saved some, next time don't go guzzlin' it down." He said. I nodded and sighed. Then there was a strange sound behind us. "What was that?" I said, and turned around. Mihpo did too. "Oh shit...." He said, a terrified look in his eyes. I focused my vision. There they were. 4 of them, their needles clicking and their skin and lights shining. Terror filled my chest. Cutters. Coming straight for us. "RUN!!!" He screamed and tore through the bushes. I shuddered and tried to follow him as fast as I could, the Cutters gaining on us. I noticed the familiar off-trail path. "Mihpo!!! We're heading straight toward the ravine!! Change path!!" I screamed. "I got a fucking plan, just follow me, and don't lose sight of me!!" I hope your god damn plan works.
