It's been a month since I've been here in New York and I was already missing California. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that Aunt Jocelyn accepted me into her home for the summer. Lord knows me and mama had been having issues. I sighed and stood in front of the mirror, brushing my long, kinky hair into a bun. My pink and white 2- piece bikini showed off my curves well. My cousin, Celeste wanted to go to the beach today.
"Gabriella, hurry up! My friends are outside waiting."
I rolled my eyes. Well, let them wait then. I'm not too fond of her friends to be honest with you. They're too messy and loud for my taste. I'm sure they're aware of the fact that I don't really like them. And im also aware that they think it's because I'm homophobic, which is far from the truth. I'm cool with all types of people, lesbians included, just as long as they don't try to spit game my way.
I grabbed my beach bag and phone and made my way downstairs to see an impatient Celeste standing by the door.
"Damn, about time."
I ignored her smart remarks and made my way to the van parked down on the street. Paige, Kesha, and Trinity gave me the usual glares as I approached, which I gladly returned right back. Bitches. I climbed to the very back of the van where I could be alone. I put my ear buds in and vibed out to Drake as we rode.
I felt the van slow down to a stop but we couldn't be at the beach just yet. I looked out my window and saw that we were outside of a house.
"Celeste, what are we doing?" I asked.
"Picking up another friend of mine. You haven't met her yet."
I rolled my eyes all the way to Africa. This is just great, more of her ignorant friends to deal with.
She got out and walked up towards the porch. I put my head down and continued my text conversation with my best friend back home. The van door opened and slammed shut and I heard a new voice.
"Gabby, this is Trae. Trae, that's Gabby." I raised my head slightly and saw hazel eyes staring back at mine. Her wavy hair was pulled back into a high bun, her plump pink lips matched her caramel skin complexion. She had on a Nike cut-off tshirt that showed her 6-pack, and black baggy shorts. Lawd, help me breathe again.
"Damn Gabby, give her her face back." Celeste said, smirking at me.
I immediately looked away, embarrassed as hell. I felt my cheeks burning as Trae continued to stare at me. I slouched down into my seat as the van started back up.
They pulled up into the beach parking lot. We all got out but I went a seperate way than the others. I didn't feel like being around them, I only came to make Celeste happy. I laid a blanket on the sand and sat down, looking out at the pretty blue water.
I laid down and closed my eyes, enjoying the feeling of the sun kissing my brown body. I was relaxed until I felt a presence beside me. Opening my eyes, I saw Trae just as she was sitting down next to me.
"It's Gabby, right?" she asked, smiling at me.
"Call me Gabriella" I hope my voice wasn't as shaky as my body was. Get a grip, dude.
Trae settled in a little closer to me, so that our arms were lightly touching. I shivered.
"So, Gabriella, why you over here by yourself?"
"Because I'm not too fond of them, and I'm sure they don't miss my presence."
Trae nodded, looking into my eyes again. Can you please not.
"Well, I missed you. Couldn't have you sitting over here by yourself, now." She grabbed my chin, letting her eyes roam over my face slowly, stopping at my lips. Lawd, don't let her kill me like this.
I gently pulled away from her grasp. "Uhh thanks, Trae, but I'm fine."
She looked away, a little hurt I think. Damn, I didn't mean to hurt her feelings.
I did the only thing I could think of to make things a little better. I grabbed her hand and laced our fingers together while gently stroking the back of it with my thumb. She grinned at me widely.
"The girls said you were straight... I had to see for myself."
"Well, there's an exception to everything" I said, placing my lips onto hers.
