You know the circle of destiny? The story which starts at a place should end at the same place. That is why we are going back to the start of all our problems as well as the end. Destiny is taking us back to the same place; where our story begins. And someone else's as well. We are going back to the unavoidable. We are going back to the Pegasus Mansion.
* * *
I have to confess something. I lied. We are not 3 but 4 best friends. Last semester we got an outdoor group project, as we like to call it. We had to examine the structure of any old building and we had 15 days to do so. We had to go outside the city and return with our project files. We chose the Pegasus Mansion and there occurred the most terrifying tragedy; the horror of my nights – the incident that snatched away our dear friend and all his memories. Except the memory of his existence. We know he exists; or maybe existed, but nothing more than that. He is not known anymore, he is the Unknown.
Pegasus Mansion: the largest mansion in the village of Eutopia. Amusing and mysterious names, we thought, when heard first. But we let it slide. Who knew that these two names would become the most horrifying names in our lives. Anyways, coming back. Pegasus mansion belongs to Musa's uncle. So, it was easy to get a permission to stay.
When we reached, we started asking the people around about the mansion. But the reaction we got ... People were scared just by hearing the name.
"I heard you are looking for the Pegasus mansion." We jumped hearing the cold voice behind us. An old man was the owner of the voice. He was bent because of his old age but his face was stern, hidden in his wrinkles. His eyes glistened. But what was in there? ...
Fear? ...
Determination? ...
Or something else?
I couldn't understand much. But his mouth was willing to tell something we will understand. "This way." His voice trailed off as he started pacing towards the largest mountain that appeared in the range of our eyes. Our eyes widened and mouths dropped. We just stood there gaping at its height.
"Excuse me sir, but can't we take our jeep up there? Do we need to hike all the way up?" Hawk suggested, with a doubt. But the man didn't pay any heed to his suggestion. "We must reach before sunset. Please follow me." I had lost all hopes of reaching before sunset after looking at the mountain's height. "We would have to walk guys. It is quite a steep. Our jeep will turn upside down", said the unknown.
We walked and walked for what felt like centuries.... Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a bit.... Okay, a lot. But every time I took a look at the watch it seemed like time hadn't passed much and it was so damn annoying. And the old man and Unknown were hiking so fast without even getting tired or stopping! Not even to look at us! How rude! It was hard to keep up with them. Even Hawk wasn't getting tired but he hiked with us to keep us company. Musa was sulking continuously and Hawk was noticeably irritated by this but he managed to keep himself good at the sweet pep talk. Oh! Did I forget to mention that Musa and Hawk are a couple? Of course, I did! How forgetful of me. They are the cutest and the best couple I have seen so far.
Standing in front of us, in its full glory, was a huge mansion: The Pegasus. It was made of grey bricks and had an adequate number of windows for ventilation. Lanterns were hanging everywhere as a source of light. The sun was setting behind the mansion. The sky was crimson with a beautiful touch of pink and blue. All the effort and pain we took was worth the happiness and satisfaction we got. I don't know about the reaction of Unknown, but the old man had something in his eyes. It felt like fear. But I chose to ignore it. I just wanted to enjoy that moment in silence with my friends. And I did it.
We just stood there, taking in as much as we could.
To be continued...
