The remaining members of the squad. Their names are listed in the chapter from left to right. I'll repeat them at the end for those of you who got confused.
Kori's Pov
When it finally came the time for us to eat I raced to the rooftop so quickly I left dust in my wake. Olivia only shakes her head and lags behind. The roof is the only peaceful spot where no one comes since it's off limits. But, we've gotten a lot of favoritism from the person who supervises this so we're cool.
Once I open the door to the roof, the afternoon breeze immediately hits me. The cool wind against my face has me sighing in relief as I spin in circles.
Liv dumps out the stuff from her backpack. One of which happens to be a high tech looking pair of headphones. The type you'd put over your head. I cock my head to the side and pick them up to inspect them.
"Is this what was moving earlier?"
"Nah that'd be my mini robot."
"You have a robot..."
"Uh huh."
"You know you're my best friend in the universe right?"
"I'm not lending it to you to prank Jamie. No matter how satisfying that'd be."
"Damn you to hell."
"Love you too."
Rolling my eyes I get out my phone and take a brief pic of the view. I never get tired of it. It's the one thing that reminds me of complete and utter freedom at my fingertips. Something our ancestors generations ago never got a chance to have. I'm sure they're watching proudly from the skies at how much their race has evolved. Though there's still many improvements to be made.
I smile and fold my arms over the ledge letting the wind blow through my hair. I can hear sparks going off in the background from Liv working on her little projects. Despite that small, scratching noise, I couldn't be happier at the moment. It's so peaceful.
And then the door slams open revealing the remaining three members of the squad: Diane, Paige and Lila. All five of us have completely different personalities but we click so well together.
Diane does professional soccer and is basically the athlete/jock of the group. Doesn't mean she's not smart but loves wrestling with Liv and I. Paige is more of a strict, business type person which is why she's training to rule over her father's company one day. She's the mother of the group but surprisingly not the oldest. That title goes to Diane. Though she can have fun every once and awhile. As for Lila, she's a party animal. Any party going on, she's always there to spice it up. All five of us together are like family. Much better than the bitch of a sister back home.
Olivia jumps and starts scolding quickly putting her gadgets away whilst cursing them out. And just like that, my peace has come to an abrupt but amusing end as they bustle in arguing like cats and dogs. I sigh in before turning to them with my hands on my hips.
"You people can't even let me get an ounce of peace and quiet can you?"
"We wouldn't be good friends if we didn't." Diane says patting my head.
"Kori you know it's in our nature to be annoying right?" Lila says.
"Unfortunately...."
For all that time we spent talking, gossiping and roasting about other people. Sometimes each other which ended up in empty death threats and slight grudges. Though you can always count on Paige to keep us in check.
I smile as I talk with my friends. This is another thing I'll never get tired of. Hanging out with them and feeling like I belong somewhere. Like I'm not rejected or completely alone. No one wants to be truly alone. And around these girls, I always feel apart of the group. If I didn't then they'd smother me to death.
