[Present Day]
Kori's Pov
I'm so bored. There's nothing to do and nothing interesting ever happens around here. I'm sitting in my room chatting on WhatsApp with my best friend early in the morning on a school day whilst my sister goes out partying. I find it odd how she hasn't moved into the dorms of her college but I guess she wanted to stay here and torment me some more. How charming of her am I right?

Anyways, at least I can always count on Olivia to keep me happy. That girl is a magnet for positive energy. And just good things in general.

"Kori you have a visitor!" Mom shouts from the kitchen.

I poke my head out from the doorway of my bedroom and smirk once I see who it is. I swear this girl just appears at the drop of a hat. That or she sensed my boredom through the messages and decided to entertain me. Such a good friend I have.

Walking out to the living room, Olivia is seen lounging on the damn couch likes she owns the thing. If you could see her now you'd think she lives here. That's how comfortable around us she is. Hell she still has some clothes left here from numerous sleepovers.

Nonetheless, I join my couch potato friend and put my arms behind the couch. We share a glance before smirking. She snaps her fingers and something inside her bag starts moving and glowing blue. I raise an eyebrow wondering what sort of invention she came up with now.

"So what do you have in stock this time?"

"Something that looks vaguely similar to what comes from sci-fi movies."

Olivia is very intelligent when it comes to robotics and building technology. She has her own workspace in her little apartment and I've been the test subject for a number of her experiments. Though she doesn't build anything flashy or large like that it's still pretty impressive. The woman made a hover board that actually hovers. As in no wheels. It literally floats three feet off the ground. When I first saw it I begged her for weeks to make me one and teach me how to control it. Because those things can break legs if not done properly.

I never really knew where she got the materials from to build these things but I don't question it. I'm more of a go with the flow kind of person. Things happen for a reason. I don't question it unless it really peaks my interest. Not that her gadgets don't entertain me.

"Olivia did you eat?"

The thing that was moving in her bag suddenly stops as Mom comes over smiling. The thing is, Mom doesn't know about Olivia's hobby. And we want to keep it that way. My mother works in the Investigation Department at the Police. So you know what'll happen if Olivia's secret became aware to her.

We both smile and nod in unison. "I'll eat anything you cook Ms. Brown. You should know that by now."

"I'm knew that ever since you broke into our house and raided our fridge." Olivia laughs sheepishly rubbing the back of her neck.

"Yeah sorry about that. It was a rough month during that time. Could barely support myself and almost got kicked out the apartment."

"Well just know that you're always welcome here. You give me more life than these daughters of mine any day."

"Okay Mom I see how it goes."

She rolls her eyes with a smile before checking the clock. Whipping her head back around she shoos us out the door. Not before throwing my backpack and some lunch money. With a wave she shuts the door with a bang. My mom's a stickler when it comes to time. Always saying it's seven when I still have fifteen minutes to sleep.
