I walked off the bus and towards the school when I saw Jack Brand walking behind me. I reached for my phone in my pocket but dropped it.

"Here ya go," Jack said as he helped me pick up the phone.

"Thanks," I said while checking for cracks.

My bus arrived late to school, as usual, so it was just us two outside.

"If you wondering, I don't really care about how you rejected Sean yesterday. I never really talked to him anyway," he said as he tried to break the silence. I looked at him and glanced away.

I thought this whole thing with Sean would have settled down by now but it's just getting worse.

"A lot of people are upset about it. A bunch of people on the bus were just talking about you guys. I heard that they made a group chat that talks about how much of a bitch you wer-"

"Thanks for trying to cheer me up, but it's not working," I said while cutting him off. I walked a little faster so I wasn't walking next to him anymore.

I eventually got to the main entrance of the school and I walked to my locker. The hallway was empty, and I'm assuming that classes have started since the time was now at 8:07 am. I looked behind me and saw that Jack was still turning the corner. I got to my locker and got the stuff I needed for class. As I started to walk to first period I saw Jack walk next to me.

"It's not very nice to snap at me while I'm just trying to help with this whole Sean thing," he sounded like he was getting annoyed, "I'm like the only person who doesn't hate you right now."

I stopped walking and glared at Jack. He looked at me and also stopped walking. Oh do I have some words to say to him.

"Has it occurred to you that I just want to be left alone? This isn't all about you okay. This was my decision and I don't care about how many people think that I'm being such a jerk right now, you don't need to keep talking to me about it."

I took a deep breath while Jack looked down at his stuff he was carrying.

"Oh and by the way, you're wrong about saying how everyone hates my fucking guts. I have friends that would beat someone up in an instant for me and I know people who aren't as rude and insolent as you are that actually give a damn about me," I said as I could feel my voice getting louder.

"On second thought, everyone was right about you. You're such a heartless douche who doesn't care about anyone but yourself. Imagine how Sean is feeling right now. He went out of his way just to ask you out. Everyone was watching you two, and have you ever wondered how embarrassed he might have felt? It's not all about you either," Jack said.

He pulled out his phone to check the time. It turns out that our argument was about 13 minutes long.

"Thanks for that lecture. We're 20 minutes late for class now he said as he continued to walk.

I started to walk again and I could feel my blood boil.

"Fuck you," I said as I stopped walking. Jack flipped me off in return but right in time for Mrs. Humphrey to be in the hall to see that.

She pointed at both of us.

"You and you, late by 20 minutes without passes, and I also saw that middle finger you stuck up at her. Follow me to my office, you guys just earned yourselves a detention slip that must be served in one of the next three days."

Jack and I looked at each other as Mrs. Humphrey turned around and began walking.

I rolled my eyes and returned the middle finger back at him.

"Y'all better not be fooling around again behind my back, because that will get you guys into more trouble."

You've got to be kidding me.
