I stare at the wooden door that reads "Manager's Office". Everything goes quiet as a dark figure lurks out from behind it. He wears a leather jacket over his manager's attire, fluffy brown hair covers the edges of his face, and two little, yet very noticeable, dots sit on top of each other on his neck.
So, they've got a lifeless husk as a manager. Go figure.
"Nathaniel, you don't need to scream so loud. I know you're a big baby, but I heard you the first time," the manager hisses.
"But, Todd, he-" Nate stutters, waving his arms as he spoke. "Pico, he stole my cash! Again! I needed that cash!"
Behind me, I hear some whistling. It's the cashier from earlier; he's walking out the door as if nothing ever happened.
"Pico, get your ass back over here. You can't just clock out with money you haven't earned," Todd says. He seems impatient.
"Sorry boss, got somewhere to be. Have fun with the crybaby!" Pico exclaims before taking off. A few customers chortle in the back while Todd sighs and hands Nate a few bucks. "This is the last time I'm giving you your cash back. Find a way to stop him before Pico does that again, ya hear?"
"Y-yes, sir."
"Good kitty. Now, serve these kiddos up, and quick. I'm not in the mood to stick around."
Todd proceeds to retreat to his office.
Nate stands behind the register. Shoving his money in his pocket, he sighs. "Sorry about all of that. If Pico wasn't such a... Y'know..."
Cam steps forward to the register. "At least you got your money back!"
Nate smiles a bit and reaches out to mess with Cam's hair. "You silly..."
Abi giggles, I smirk. Cam brushes Nate's hand off of his head and laughs.
"Now, what is it that you wanted?" Nate asks.
"Oh, uh..." Cam says, staring at the menu again. "What did you want, babe?" He says leaning back to Abigale. She whispers her order in his ear and he nods.
"She wants a medium fries, and I want a cheeseburger. Oh! And add two sodas. Mason, you wanna order?" Cam asks, turning to me. I feel my face turn pink.
"Oh, uhm... I guess I'll have two plain McChickens and a water."
"Hungry, aren't ya?" Cam teases, nudging my elbow.
"I forgot to buy lunch..." I mutter.
Nate punches a few buttons on the register before looking up and saying in his most McDonald's-employee-voice, "That'll be six dollars and fifty cents."

A few minutes later, we're out the building with our food. Cam deals out the food and sauces before driving away.
"Thank you Cam! You're the best~" Abi says cheerfully before getting into her fries.
"No problem babe. You two good back there?" Cam says, looking at Lena and I through his rear-view mirror.
"I'm fine," I answer. I take out one of my sandwiches and unwrap it.
"I'm okay, but, um.. You guys forgot my order," Lena says shyly.
"Oh, god, I'm so sorry!" Cam exclaims, hitting his forehead. "There was some drama going on inside and I completely forgot your food!"
"It's fine, Cameron! I wasn't that hungry anyways, I can always go eat something at home!"
As I'm about to bite into my McChicken, I feel a sudden wave of guilt wash over me. Looking at Lena, I realize that I got two sandwiches, and seeing as I don't really need them both...
I dig into my bag and pull out the other sandwich, handing it to Lena. "Here, take it."
"O-oh..? Um, you sure you don't want it? You got it after all, so..."
"I can live without a second sandwich. You came with us to get food, and now you're getting it."
"But, it's yours-"
"Just take it, my arm's getting tired."
Lena tentatively reaches for the golden-wrapped sandwich and takes it from my grasp.
I take one last glance at her and then take a bite from my sandwich. She does the same; a smile stretches across her face. Through a mouth full of bread and chicken, she says "Thank you, Mason."
Abigale looks back at the two of us and squeals. "You two are so cute! Mason, you're such a gentleman! Lena, marry this kid!"
I choke on my sandwich and start punching my chest to prevent the choking from getting worse. As I cough violently, Lena hands me my water and tells me to drink it quick. I do just that, as quick as I started choking, I stopped. I sigh, look at everyone else in the car (who are all staring at me with either worry or confusion), then proceed to avert my gaze to outside. As I pick up my sandwich and continue eating, my face begins to burn.
"Abi! You just can't say stuff like that! That embarrasses people!" Lena scolds.
"What? I was only speaking my mind!"
"That's dangerous! Don't do that!" Lena continues. I peek over at her and can tell that she's just as shocked as I am.
