Chapter 6 – Who is JJ?

Someone kept ringing the doorbell in a continuous motion. I scrubbed my eyes and looked at the clock. Shit, it was only six in the morning! Whoever it was didn't seem to want to give up. I guessed mum was out. She had always been an early riser, which never rubbed off on me.

The knocking began again and I groaned. I didn't want to leave the warmth of Shanay next to me who was either ignoring the noise or sleeping soundly.

I dragged my sorry arse out of the bed and headed downstairs. When I found JJ standing in the doorway, I went from annoyed to furious. The guy looked worse for wear. His nose had expanded in a puffy mess and his eyes had bruised from where I had hit him. The guy had deserved it for hurting Shay.

"What do you want?" I snarled at him and he narrowed his eyes at me looking fierce.

"I went and saw Shanay's parents. They said if she wasn't there that she'd probably be here." His eyes lashed with anger.

"Yeah, she is."

"Can I see her?" he snapped.

"She's kinda sleeping at the moment, dude, so why don't you call in later." I couldn't hide my smugness.

I so wanted to add the words 'in my bed' but I didn't want to embarrass Shanay. His eyes went to instant fury at my words and I could tell he had clenched his teeth.

"Luke, what's going on?" I heard Shanay's sleepy voice from the top of the stairs.

I turned to her but kept the door partially closed. She looked mouth-wateringly good. Everything about her appeared rumpled from sleep. When she rubbed her eyes and tried to flatten her bed hair, I couldn't help but smile. I bloody adored this girl.

"Hey, Shay, are you alright?" I asked as I ignored a gobsmacked JJ who could only hear her voice.

"I woke up and you were gone. It's so early." She sounded a bit confused as she stumbled down a few stairs.

"We've had a visitor." I explained making her more perplexed.

"Who?"

"JJ," I answered and her eyes went wide. "Look go and grab one of my shirts so you can see him." I said while blocking any view JJ would have of her in those tiny pyjamas of hers.

"Yeah, okay." She wandered back upstairs and I opened the door to look at JJ.

"You slept with her." He accused me straight off.

"Not that it's any of your business, but no, I didn't." I rejected his allegation.

"She was in your bed. She said so." JJ's angry voice rose louder.

"Yeah, man, and she was asleep. She had a nightmare from watching that shit movie last night."

I explained far more than I wanted to but I had to so I could protect Shanay's reputation. The last thing I needed was for her to be mad at me for making this arse think that we were having sex.

"Yeah, right." JJ scoffed at me. I hadn't heard Shanay come up behind me with my focus on this idiot.

"After last night's behaviour you're going to still throw accusations at me?" Shanay ripped the door from my hands and glared at JJ. Wow, she was so hot when she was mad. I could barely take my eyes off her.

"Hey, I didn't mean anything by it." JJ tried to defend himself and I held back the snicker that wanted to come forth.

"Yeah, right! Why are you even here this early?" she threw his words back at him as she stood her ground in defiance.
