The Summer Escape

Chapter 1

At the end of every school year and the start of every summer, teenagers proclaim that this year's will be the best one yet. What Allison and Hallie don't realize, is that this summer indeed will. It's the summer after freshman year, and best friends Allison Sperry and Hallie Silver have no idea what they're going to do for a whole two and a half months until classes resume in September. School had only ended the week before, and the girls had already done everything they could think of to entertain themselves. Hallie had become sick of constantly watching YouTube videos of their favorite boy band, and Allison had eaten just about all of the food she had in her house. The girls lay on Allison's bed in her room, brainstorming ideas to save them from their overwhelming sense of boredom. Hallie was flipping through her local newspaper, seeing if there were any upcoming events that sounded even the least bit exciting; and Allison was searching Facebook to see if there was any news from their other friends. Hallie was just about to give up on her search when she flipped the page of the newspaper and spotted an article about a new ride at the amusement park about an hour south of their town in New York. Hallie knew exactly what her and Allison were going to do that summer. Hallie's grandparents lived just about ten minutes from where the park was located, and she knew they wouldn't mind if they stayed in their guest bedroom for awhile during the summer. They had always wanted Hallie to spend time there for awhile during the summer, but she had never found a reason to. Well Grandma and Grandpa, Hallie now had a reason.

"Go to the same amusement park, every day this summer? Come on, Hallie. Get real. We'll be bored within three days and then we'll be begging to come home." Allison was skeptical of Hallie's "great idea," but Hallie wasn't going to have it. "It'll be great! And if we do get bored, we can just come home. Plus there are other things we can do while we're there than just go to the amusement park! We should try it!" coaxed Hallie, "It will be so much fun, and we can use our babysitting money we saved up to get season passes so we can go every day!" "But, don't you think it'll get old after awhile?" Allison questioned, still not completely sold on the idea. "Maybe, but either way we'll find ways to have fun! There's a beach nearby, too; and my grandparents already said we could stay with them! My grandpa will give us a ride there on his way to work in the mornings. Please, Allison? This is perfect!" Hallie pleaded. Allison thought about all of the pros and cons of the trip, she had always been the more sensible, level-headed one of the two.

Pro, all of the rides! Con, the same place, everyday this summer? Pro, the people we could meet! Con.... uimmmmmmmm.....

Allison couldn't think of anymore cons, but she could think of quite a few more reasons why they should go. Think of all the fun you'll have! The thought ran through her head.

"Alright, lets do it!" Allison exclaimed. Hallie squeaked and jumped for joy. The girls had never been more excited.

That Saturday, Hallie's parents drove Hallie and Allison down to her grandparent's home in a town called Kings Falls, New York. The amusement park, called "The Great Escape" was only about ten minutes away from her grandparents house; and the girls planned on going the following Monday.

Monday morning came quickly, and the girls woke up early to get ready, because you never know who you're going to see! Allison and Hallie slugged around the house in the early morning, having not woken up so early since school let out. The sun shone brightly that morning, and the weather looked promising; which made the girls beam. The past two weeks had been chilly and rainy, and the cloudless sky added to the girl's excitement. Allison took time to straighten every one of her chocolate brown curls, and then placed a head band in her hair to keep it out of her face; while Hallie brushed out her already straight golden blonde hair, pushing her bangs to the side so they wouldn't obstruct her view while she checked her outfit in the mirror.

As Allison was lining her striking mint green eyes with a thin line of black eye liner and mascara -the only makeup she ever wore,- Hallie was reassuring her that her hair-do didn't make her nose look bigger than it already was, which she was always insecure about. Hallie constantly had to remind Allison that she was stunning, because Allison seemed to be oblivious to the fact that she was absolutely gorgeous; and Hallie was secretly jealous that her friend was always noticed by guys, while Hallie had to compete just to get a glance.

The girls had finished readying themselves, each with sunscreen on their bodies and flip flips on their feet; they loaded into Hallie's grandfather's old pick up, and left for their first day at "The Great Escape!"
