" Whenever she looked at Snow White, her heart turned over inside her body, so great was the hatred for the girl. The envy and pride grew even greater, like a weed in her heart, until she had no peace day and night. " - Grimm Brothers
"Take her far into the forest. Find some secluded glade where she can pick wild flowers.
And there, you will kill her."
"But your majesty-"
The queen's eyes flared with malicious rage as she arose from her throne. "Silence!" she snarled, leaning down so she was face to face with the huntsman.
"You know the penalty if you fail," the evil queen hissed, looking directly into the terrified eyes of her subject.
"Y-Yes, your majesty," the burly man stuttered.
The queen stood up straight, and walked back to her throne, where she picked up a red box, adorned with a heart shaped latch. She presented it to the huntsman.
"To be sure you do not fail... you must bring me back her heart and liver in this."
The next day, the huntsman took Snow White out to a beautiful, sunny forested area so she could pick wild flowers. The princess was wearing a pale yellow sun dress for the occasion, in contrast to her usual dirty rags. The huntsman watched as the princess bent down to talk to a lost baby bluebird.
"C'mon little guy, perk up. Can you smile for me?" she asked sweetly, stroking his head. She giggled when the bird gave her a small, half-hearted grin.
"That's better. I'm sure your parents are around here somewhere." Snow White looked around, squinting her eyes. Two adult bluebirds flew down from the tree above her, chirping happily as they nuzzled their baby.
"See? You're alright. Goodbye now!" the princess waved as the family flew off. She continued picking flowers as the huntsman slowly approached the girl from behind, gripping a dagger in his hand. Soon his shadow overtook her, and Snow White quickly spun around, her caramel brown eyes widening as she spotted the gleaming weapon.
The huntsman advanced as the princess fell down. Her mouth was agape and tears were threatening to fall down her cheeks as she scrambled backwards in the grass, kicking up dirt with her shoes.
Then, the huntsman dropped the dagger and collapsed to his knees, clasping his hands together. "I can't. I can't do it! Forgive me. I beg of you, your highness!"
Snow White shakily stood up and brushed off her dress as she looked down at him, confused. "What do you mean?"
He explained the queen's evil plan frantically, pleading her to run deep into the forest and hide, so as to escape her step-mother's murderous intentions. "Run away! Hide in the woods, anywhere! Never come back! Now go!"
Snow White nodded, swiftly wiping away her tears. She leaned over to kiss the huntsman on the cheek before dashing off into the forest.
