Riley's POV
Jessica was in a better state after Mark gave her some water. She still hadn't told anyone what happened to her and why she was in such a state. I thought after the whole incident Mark would take her home, but Jessica didn't want to hear it. "I'm fine now and I really don't want to go yet" she said while putting her bottle of water on the table. "Fine, just tell us what happened to you then" Mark demanded having grown anxious about what she remembers. "I just started walking in the opposite direction because I remember Riley was behind me..." she began turning her gaze away from Mark to look at me "...and because I called you but you didn't answer me when the power went out so I assumed you were gone" she said with a frown on her face clearly confused by everything that happened. "Jess, I was behind you the entire time" I told her honestly. "I even spoke to you, but you didn't respond. I don't even know if you heard me. Are you sure you're fine? I really think that Mark should take you home" I went on trying to pursue Jessica, but only wasted my breath because she clearly didn't and wasn't going to do as I say.
How stubborn.
I gave up and told her to at least get something to eat. I really didn't like seeing my friend like this. "I'm fine Riles. Really. I don't know why I didn't hear you. It must have been all in my head then..." she said, the last sentence more to herself then to me. "I can't remember what really happened. I just remember the lights going off and then I started walking around, calling you. Then suddenly the lights came back on and I was in that room where you found me" she continued. She was lying. I looked at Mark and he looked back at me also indicating that he also knew she lied. I wasn't going to push her and by the look of it neither was he, because he suddenly changed the topic. "Well then let's go get you some food and enjoy the rest of the long evening to come" he said grabbing her hand and taking her towards the food tables. I stood there watching them leave. a Million thoughts rushed through my mind.
Jessica's POV
I wanted to tell them everything. Especially Mark, but after Riley told me she was behind me the entire time, I couldn't tell them what happened. It seemed I imagined it all and I didn't want to look crazy. It felt so real though. Even the coldness of the room was evident long after the voice and its owner were gone. I wonder who it was. It was, no doubt, a woman's voice, warning me about something to come, but what? I could hear the menace in her voice. It sounded almost demonic. Like 2 cold hateful voices speaking at the same time.
I should stop entertaining these thoughts. It wasn't real. Although... if it was all in my head, why can't I shake the feeling that something was trying to warn me. That something bad was going to happen and I shouldn't be here.
Something in the woman's voice sounded almost familiar...
"Jessica?" Mark's worried voice snapped me back to reality. I knew from the minute he found me that for the rest of the night he'd be keeping a close eye on me and I was right. He was watching me like a hawk which for once didn't annoy me. Mark tends to get overprotective sometimes and he doesn't always realise when he oversteps the line of being protective to where he just starts to suffocate me. He does it with good intentions though so its not always easy telling him to back off a little. Tonight, however I was grateful for it. I was still a bit shaken up and didn't want Mark or Riley to notice so Mark's protective habit was comforting. "I'm fine Mark. Just hungry" I said with what I thought was a normal "I'm fine" expression on my face. Looks like he bought it. Because I lied when I said was hungry, I had to fill my plate with tiny bites and arrange it around my plate to fool Mark in to thinking it was a lot of food when it actually wasn't. I lost my appetite and it wasn't returning anytime soon.
Where did Riley go?
