Chapter 5
A couple of nights later Scott told me Derek's plan to go after Deucalion. Derek obviously didn't tell me or else I would have went to figure out the plan and help. I hated that he purposely kept me out of it.
I tell my dad and Allison to see if my dad will come help. I mean going up against a pack of Alphas is not the best idea ever and I figured he could provide a much more tactical advantage. So less blood is shed and everyone gets to walk away. Dad tells me to stay out of it since, I'm sorta in trouble for helping with Boyd and Cora.
Yep.
Not good.
Dad seriously needs to learn that he can't stop me from standing by my friends he knows my code.
I sit in a chair with Allison next to me. "Someone needs to help them." I state while crossing my arms over my chest.
"Not us. I'm getting the consulting business back up and running, you two need to graduate. That's a normal life. And that's what we agreed to." Dad replies while placing a book over his desk like he was trying to hide something.
"So we just ignore it?" I challenge.
"We stay out of it." Dad counters.
"There's a pack of Alphas trying to kill my friends. How do I stay out of that? Do I just let them die?" I say hotly.
"There's a saying for these kind of situations, the kind you have to navigate carefully. It's called, 'threading the needle.' It's finding a safe path between two opposing forces." I stand up.
"You know what? It sounds like saving your own ass." I spat, I'm going and I don't care what he says.
I'll go alone if I have to. "They're not your family." Dad calls after me.
I get a hard glare on my face. I spin back around. "With all the family that I've lost, I could use a few friends." I snap. I have to protect them.
I get up and go to my room. "Emily." Dad calls after me.
I turn back around. "Just forget it, keep focusing on saving your own ass, that's all the matters to you anyway." I snap.
"Emily!" Dad says again. I ignore him and slam my door. I pull open my dresser and yank out a black v-neck t shirt. I grab black pants and quickly change. A knock sounds on my door.
"Go away Dad."
"It's me." Allison answers.
She opens my door. "If you're here to tell me not to go. You're wasting your time and your breath, I'm not letting them all get killed."
"I'm not here to tell you not to go. I'm here to tell you, I'll drive." I turn to face my twin. She is dressed in black with her hair in a bun and a bow and arrow in her hand. I smile.
"Let's do this." We nod. I pull my hair into a tight bun, grab my bow and arrows and run out to the car with Allison while avoiding our dad.
I tell Allison the address that Isaac texted me and we drive. My hands shake the whole way and I can't help but curse Derek in my mind, he's determined to get himself killed.
When we get there we sneak up to a ledge.
I poise my bow ready to fire, everyone is pinned to the ground except Kali, Deucalion, Ennis, and Derek.
I let out a breath and I fire the first arrow at the twins and Derek ducks.
It's a flash bolt so it makes the light that temporally blinds.
