Chapter 12

I kept watching Allison die over and over again in my head. My screms echoing in my brain.

I try to think of something I could have done to stop it from happening. Scott and I grip the fence tightly. I have my face pressed against it. Trying to block it all out.

“Scott, Emily, look at me. Look at me.” Dad dictates.

“Scott, Emily, look at me.” He reiterates. This time I look at him.

“You have to remember. You called me first, okay? Both of you say it. You called me first.”

“I called you...” Scott says his voice thick with emotion. I cried so hard. When I stopped I became numb. Just like my father had.

        “Not you.” Dad cuts off.

“Say Mr. Argent. Or my dad.” He says while looking at me for the last part.

“I called my dad first.” I choke out.

“What else? What happened?” He questions.

“There were two of them.” Scott starts.

“Mmm-hmm.” Dad hums out. Scott starts panting so do I. We can't keep calm much longer. I'm losing it. I can focus on this stupid story. My freaking sister was just killed!

“They tried to steal our car. They... They wore masks. One of them had a knife.” Scott stutters out.

“You think. Don't get specific, Scott. You both saw something sharp and metallic. You think it was a knife. What do you say next? If you get confused, what do you always repeat?” He asks.

“It happened so fast.” I stutter out.

“That's right. Say it again. Scott! Emily! Say it again.” I look at him.

“How are you doing this?” I ask. He doesn't answer at first. “It's what we do. It's what we do.”

                =

“Can you remember anything else?” Parrish inquires.

Lydia, Isaac, Scott and I all sat in the Sheriff’s department. “Anything else?” He repeats.

        “Isaac?” He asks.

“I'm sorry. It just happened so fast.” Isaac whispers.

I sat next to Isaac while the sheriff was on the other side. I held Isaac's hand. Both of us. Broken inside. He lost everything and so did I. My mother, sister, aunt, grandfather. People I was suppose to trust. Who all turned out to be evil. Except for Allison. She died a hero. The rest died as killers. Isaac lost everyone. His mother, father, brother. All of them. He loved Allison. Now she's gone too.

I left the sheriff's department. I went to the only place where I would feel safe. Dad told me to go. That he would be okay. Isaac went with him. I pulled open the loft doors. Derek looked up from a bloody Ethan. They were covered in black blood, wolfsbane.

He took one look at me. "What happened?" He asks.

“She's gone.” I whisper. Ethan and Aiden looked at me then looked down.
