Lyn got up from her nest, and stretched out her front paws. She shook out her now longer pelt and padded into the main part of the den where her sister and brother were eating a rabbit and a vole sadly. The now small family was losing prey, and was devastated by the death of their 2 sisters. Lyn slouched down in the corner of the slate cave, the cold stone walls pressing against her fur. She didn't feel the need to care about the coldness seeping into her pelt and into her skin. All she could think about was how she would never trust another cat again. She had no way of telling if they were dangerous, or if they had been the cat who had killed her sisters. She was snapped out of her thoughts by her sister resting her tail on her shoulder. Lyn's emotionless gaze drifted to Noa's fluffy tail. The pale ginger she-cat sighed. "Lyn, you have to stop this. You haven't eaten anything in a few sunrises. I know you're sad, we all are. But you're not the same cat you used to be." Lyn jumped back. "Get away!" She snapped. But after seeing the sadness and disappointment in Noa's gaze, she filled up with guilt. "Okay, sorry." Lyns gaze drifted to the small 'fresh-kill pile.' She shook her head and walked over, grabbing a few minnows and eating them. Suddenly hunger settled into her after eating the 4 tiny minnows. She gulped down a few more minnows and looked to her sister who was smirking at her brother. Lyn padded up to them. "What are you smiling about?" She asked. Noa, still smirking, replied with, "I told him that if you ate something, he would have to catch 3 pieces of prey," she looked towards Ezra. "By himself." Ezra and Noa both finished, Noa's voice with a hint of amusement and Ezra's with more than a hint of annoyance. Lyn shook her head, half in disappointment at her two older siblings and half with happiness that at least they were happy. Lyn shook out her fur. "I'm going to go outside." She paused, looking at the entrance of the den. "But only for a bit," she finished. Noa nodded, and Lyn padded outside, gazing at the tall trees. But then she saw the spot where everything went wrong. Where her sisters died. Stronger emotions filled her up, and she ran to the base of an oak tree and slowly layed down on it. She closed her eyes, hoping to fall asleep. But she couldn't. She yawned and sat up. She blinked repeatedly, trying to adjust to the bright light. She felt a thick tail on her shoulder, and she jumped in the air. Behind her, she saw a bright ginger tabby with blue eyes. Lyn stepped back, her fur bristling. For all she knew, this could be the cat who murdered her sisters. The ginger cat sighed. "Okay, before you ask who I am, I saw you here and you looked sad, so I wanted to help." Lyn's fur spiked up even more. She let out a low growl. "I can't trust you. I won't trust you." The hurt in the ginger she-cat's blue eyes startled her at first, and she wanted to apologize, but then she remembered the promise she made to herself- that she wouldn't trust another cat ever again, until she found out who killed her sisters. Lyn whipped around and bared her teeth at the strange cat. "Now if you'll excuse me.. I have to go." And with that, the creamy brown she-cat ran to her den and fell down into her nest.
-Timeskip to 2 days later-
Lyn padded out into the forest, hoping that she wouldn't see the strange ginger cat again. But, just like right when she thought that, the ginger cat walked over. Lyn sighed. "Not you again," She meowed. "Oh, hey sad cat." The name 'Sad cat' caused Lyn to get annoyed. "That's not my name. My name is Lyn." "Oh.. Well why were you sad in the first place?" The cat asked. Lyn felt a slight anger take over her body. "Because my two sisters got murdered, and I don't know if you were the one who did it!" She growled. The ginger she-cat took a step backwards, first looking taken aback, but then amusement and confusion settled in her gaze at the same time. "Listen, I just want to help. I didn't kill any cat." The ginger cat scanned the forest with her eyes. "But I might know some cat who did.. Follow me." Lyn hesitantly put a paw down to follow her, and later found her following the strange cat with no trouble. After a few moments, they came to a stop. The ginger cat headed into the thick bushes, and Lyn heard a faint mew calling out to her. "Stay there!" That was the voice of the ginger tabby cat. Without saying anything, Lyn rested her head on her paws, waiting for the ginger she-cat to return. About 7 moments later, the she-cat returned with a white she-cat. The ginger she-cat frowned and looked the white she-cat in the eyes. "Now Owl.. You told me you 'injured' some cats.. What if you actually killed them?" The white she-cat, who Lyn guessed was named Owl, looked.. proud? "Maybe I did." The white she-cat smiled, digging her claws into the ground. The ginger cat looked at Lyn. "What did your sisters look like?" Lyn shook her head, trying not to let the thought of her sisters get to her, but she knew she should answer the question. "Uh, one was dark brown and the other was pale ginger." Lyn closed her eyes, trying to remove the thoughts of her sisters' deaths from her head. She opened them to see the ginger she-cat in shock, her fur bristling. "Owl, those are the same fur colours of the cats you supposedly killed.. What if those cats are her sisters?" Owl just smiled. "Eh, I don't care that much." The white she-cat walked back into the bushes, leaving Lyn surprised. Lyn turned to the ginger she-cat slowly. "Was that the cat who killed my sisters?" Was all she managed to get out. The ginger she-cat nodded. "Probably. I don't understand her, you know? We used to be best friends but she just turned.. I don't know.. cold." Lyn couldn't help but feel bad for the ginger cat. "So.. What's your name?" Lyn couldn't help but asking. The ginger she-cat brushed her tail against the grass. "Sophia. My name is Sophia." Lyn stared at the grass. "Well.. That's a nice name." Sophia smiled. "Your name isn't that bad, either." Lyn looked at the setting sun, and she guessed Sophia noticed too, because she stood up and walked away. But after a few steps she stopped in her tracks. "Meet me here tomorrow, okay?" She asked. Lyn looked towards Sophia. "Okay!" She called out, and ran back to her den. She settled down in her nest, and for the first time since her two sisters deaths, she smiled. Now she had a friend, someone who she guessed cared about her, and to her that meant the world.Word count(not including this): 1227 words
