Later that night, I still couldn't get my head out of the things that happened earlier. Gio is a jerk. I can't believe he'd do such thing to me. I can still feel the pain on my arm and I was right, it left a very awful purple mark.
My mind flew to the stranger who helped me. After he punched the life out of Gio, he gave me his hanky and asked, "Are you okay?"
I was able to nod my head slightly but I could feel I am trembling. I took the hanky he gave me and gently patted my forehead. I am sweating but I feel cold to the bones when our eyes met so I shifted my eyes back to Gio who's still whimpering on the elevator floor. Thankfully the elevator is not moving. We're still stuck on the 27th floor. The door was still not close as the stranger pressed the stop button.
I did not cry. I thought, it was a stupid move to cry in front of Gio and to the stranger. I'm not a cry baby to cry over petty things.
I composed myself and took a big breath. I looked back at the stranger who helped me and smiled genuinely. "I'm okay. Thank you very much for stepping in. I appreciate it." I told him but he just nodded.
"Good." He said and pressed the elevator back in motion. "What floor are you?" He asked casually like nothing happened and pressed the lobby.
"Lobby," I answered silently and tried my hardest to relax. The elevator is quite big but it felt so crowded. His presence is all over the place. For the first time in my life I felt intimidated.
After we reached the lobby, we parted ways and when I asked him about his hanky, he told me to just keep it or throw it but I decided to keep it. I missed my afternoon meeting with the board and I'm sure they're beyond pissed with my behavior. It never happened before so I'm sure Curt is worried sick about me.
I just needed time to cool down, so I decided to drive around town since Norman already went home, I drove on my own. I went back to my office at around 4:00 PM when my mind is no longer chaotic and I could think clearly.
I was greeted by worried Curt the moment I stepped inside my office. He looked so agitated and his face relieved when he saw me. "Where have you been Beatrice Evangelista? I've been trying to call you but cannot be reached! We're worried sick about you!" I cringed when he called me by my whole name. He only calls me that when he's way serious.
"Kuya, lumabas lang ako sandali. I felt so stressed lately and my head is in chaos earlier. I'm really sorry. It won't happen again." I explained and slowly walked towards him. He's standing beside my sofa and he's clearly not happy with my explanation.
"Selina said, Gio was here earlier."He said watching me carefully. I just shrugged. "What did he do this time?" He asked but I just shook my head.
"Nothing kuya... really. Ano ka ba. Relax. I am okay. It really won't happen again." I persuaded him. I just don't want Curt to be involved with what I have with Gio. Curt is overprotective of me and I really appreciate it. He sometimes gets in trouble because of me and it wasn't a good sight.
"Relax kuya." I coax him and he just sighed.
"You know tayong dalawa lang ang magkakampi sa lahat diba?" He said softly and I nodded. We made a pact, 7 years ago that we will be the shoulder of each other. Kami at kaming dalawa lang ang magkakampi at wala ng iba. Ginawa namin yung nung walang naniniwala samin na magiging successful ang business na pinapangarap namin and since then, kaming dalawa na ang magkakampi. Sa hirap at ginhawa.
"You'll tell me when something's up, right?" He continued kaya napabuntong hininga ako. I just can't keep this. Nakakakonsensya. Curt tells me everything about what's going on with his life as we promised of no secrecy.
