Chapter 18: Freedom

Friday September 24, 2021 - Jacksonville, Florida

Desi POV

10:00 AM

"Remember, keep your eyes on your opponent at all times. Okay, now, arm drag...good! Good form! You got it! Do it again!"

I'm currently in the middle of my post-workout in-ring training session with Joe at a local gym. Along with training me in weight lifting, he's also been teaching me how to wrestle, but am I️ going to actually fight in the ring? Probably not, not right now, but I'm definitely not opposed to it. I'm sparring with Seth as Dean and Lenni look on. I've done a few arm drags on him and now I've got him in a stretch hold.

"Good, you're doin' great. Aight, now let him go." Joe calls out to me and I️ release my hold just for Seth to flip me over him and put me into a scissor headlock.

"AHHHH! You sneaky BASTARD!" I️ yell at him over his maniacal laughter.
"Oh shit, Des! Whatchu gon' do now?!" Joe yells out to me and I begin to roll my body back forth against Seth's attempts to keep me still. I️ finally flip us over and wiggle out of his hold, sit on his back, and put him into a camel clutch.

"AHHHH!" He yells.
"OH NOOO! WHATCHU GON' DO NOW ROLLINS?!"

He tries to get up with me on his back but I️ plant my feet and pull him back further.

"TAP OUT! TAP OUT!" I️ yell and soon feel his hand tapping my leg and I️ let him go, going for a victory lap around the outside of the ring to Lenni, Dean, and Joe's applause. I️ jog up to Joe and he wraps his arms around me.
"You're doin' so good baby. I'm so proud of you."
"Me too, thank you so much." I️ say and kiss his soft lips.
"Aye, that was fire shit in there. You really looked like you knew what you were doin'." Lenni says walking up to hug me.
"Thanks, I'm tryin'."
"Good shit, girl. Keep up the good work; I'd love to see you really whoop Seth's ass one day." Dean says patting my back.

"Yeah, me too; I'd like to see you try." Seth teases walking up to me massaging his lower back.
"I'll keep that in mind, Lopez. Joe, we done here? We gotta get on the road soon, right?"
"Yeah, you right. You're packed right?" He asks me.
"Yeah, just gotta shower."
"Yeah, me too. We should shower together to, you know, save time." He says winking at me and I️ mush his face.
"Boy bye, I'll just shower in my room, yo thirsty and insatiable ass. Let's roll out hoes."

We all get our stuff and leave the gym and Uber back to the hotel so Joe and I️ can finish packing our stuff for the two hour drive to Orlando for him to sign the last of the divorce papers in the lawyer's office and he can officially be a single man...until he starts to call me his girlfriend again, anyway.

2:30 PM

Having arrived in Orlando in record time, Joe and I had enough time to check into the hotel and get some light lunch before heading into downtown Orlando. We pull up at a meter in front of the court building and we both just look at it knowing that in a few moments he'll be an officially divorced man.

"Well, this is it babe. You ready?" I️ ask looking at him.
"As ready as I'll ever be to end my marriage. You know, it's not even like we had a terrible relationship; the constant traveling and working just wore on her I️ guess, me being away all the time. You dealt with it though and I️ wouldn't even tell you why I️ had to travel so much."
"It was definitely foolish of me to just take everything you gave me at face value, but I️ loved you and when you love someone you believe them, trust them, especially when they hadn't ever given you a reason to not trust them...until they give you a reason to not trust them. It's all just you hoping for the best, y'know."
"I️ suppose so."
"Besides, I️ didn't have three kids to look after by myself for over three hundred days of the year save for the few breaks you would get; motherhood is hard enough even with the hubby home. I️ can't believe you managed to come see me like you did; your schedules are insane."
