Austin's p.o.v.
We walk out of famous footwear and turn the corner. All the sudden, Nikki stops in her tracks and drops her bags. "What's wron-" I follow her gaze and see Tiffany talking to some girls. I turn to Nikki and her face has lost all color. How the heck does Nikki know Tiffany. I look back toward Tiffany and she notices Nikki and I. An evil smile spreads across her face and she starts walking toward us. "Well look at that," she says as she steps a little too close for comfort toward Nikki. "Didn't think id ever see you at the mall," she says as she shoves Nikki over and leans over her face, raising her fist. I grab Tiffany's shoulders and pull her up from over Nikki. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" I ask, the anger starting to rise inside me. Her eyes go wide as she realizes who I am. "I-i um nothing," she stutters. She pulls away from my grasp and kicks Nikki in the rib,"I better not see you here again." She smiles that evil and devious smile and turns away back to her friends. I look down and Nikki is laying there holding her side. I kneel down and put my hand on her waist. "Are you okay? How bad is it?" I ask with a worried tone. "It's bad," she says with tears forming in her eyes. "Can you stand up?" I ask. "I-I don't know. It's hard to breath." I realize that we need to go to the hospital. "I'm gonna take you to the hospital okay?" I say, looking into her eyes. "Okay," she replies quietly. "I'm gonna pick you up and carry you okay?" She nods and I put our bags on my wrist and help her onto her back. She wraps her arm around my neck and I wrap one arm around her waist, careful not to touch her injured rib, and place the other one behind her knees. I pick her up with ease and carry her out of the mall. "Sorry to ruin our mall day," she says quietly. "I look at her with sympathy in my eyes. She must be used to being blamed for everything. "You didn't ruin it, Tiffany did," I reply with slight smile. She gives me a small smile and then winces, and my smile disappears. I get to the car and help her into the passenger seat. I buckle her in and shut her door. I run to the drivers seat and buckle up and put the keys in. I pull out of the parking lot and look over at Nikki. I decide not to ask her how she knows Tiffany. "On a scale of one to ten, how bad does it hurt?" I ask worriedly. "Eight," she replies quietly. We pull up it the hospital and I help her inside by carrying her. The doctors place allow me to place her on a bed and then wheel her to a small room to be examined. I sit by her the whole time. I notice that her eyes are closed tightly. "Beside the pain, are you okay?" I ask. "I don't like hospitals," she replies with a little more strength now that the pain medicine has kicked in. "Do you mind me asking why?" I say, really wondering why. "A hospital is where I saw my mom for the last time," she says with a sigh and looks at me. "I'm sorry, i didn-" "it's ok," she interrupts. "I know you didn't," she looks away. "My dad passed away too," I say, and she looks back at me. "How? I mean, if you want to tell me," she says looking down at her hands. "I don't mind," I prepare myself to tell the story. "I was really little. I was two and-" I look down and hold back the tears. "It's ok, take your time," she replies with a empathetic smile. "My dad committed suicide when I was two," her eyes widen and unwiden so quickly I barely noticed. "I'm so sorry. I'm sure he was a great person and I'm sure he loved you so much," she says with a small smile. I grab her hand and she blushes. The doctor walks in and introduces himself. "Hello, I'm doctor James and I will be helping you today," he says as he shakes our hands. She shows him her ribs, that bruised really quickly and badly. He decides to get X-rays. He wheels her down to the radiation and X-ray room in a wheel chair. About 10 minutes later he comes back with Nikki in tears. "We had to place her in some painful positions," he explains with a sypathetic smile. Doctor James and I help her back into the bed and I grab her hand again. We stay there in silence just enjoying each other's company until Docotr James comes back with the results. "Turns out, you broke a rib," Nikki puts her face into her hands. "How bad of a break is it?" I ask worriedly. "Bad enough to require surgery to heal right," he says with a sigh. Nikki tenses as I see a tear roll down her cheek. "How soon will she have this surgery?" I ask, nervous for Nikki. "As soon as in the morning," he says with sympathy. "Can you give us a minute?" I ask, hopefully. "Sure, just come get me when you're done," he nods his head and leaves the room. I squeeze Nikki's hand and try to pull the other one off of her face. "Nikki, it's going to be okay," I say, looking into her eyes. "I won't let anything bad happen to you okay?" She nods and I go to set a time for the surgery.
Nikki's p.o.v.
I'm really nervous for this surgery. But I'm glad that austin is going to be with me the whole time. I hope it goes well. The surgery is tomorrow morning at 7 so I have to be here by 6:30 for prep. I'm laying on Austin's couch watching a movie with my feet on Austin's lap. He is gently rubbing his thumb on my foot and it's making it really hard to focus on the movie. I turn to look at him and look at all his features. He is perfect. His nose is perfect. His lips are perfect. His jawline is perfect. His eyes are perfect. His hair is perfect. "Take a picture, it lasts longer," he says as he turns to face me. I blush uncontrollably and look away. "It's ok, I'm just teasing," he says as he turns back towards the tv with a smile on his face. God, his smile is contagious. Oh, I forgot, his smile is perfect too.
