Eighteen - Well this is quite the pickle

Jennifer:

We had a lot of fun at the water park. Although there were brief interludes where Asha complained about getting her hair wet, I guess it was pretty safe to say that everyone else enjoyed the day too. There was also a running joke about how maybe once Zara got into the water all the blue would wash out and we'd finally learn her real hair color. Apparently she started dying it in middle school so no one really knew.

One thing that particularly stood out for me was how touchy Trevor was being with me; the subtle hand grazes, occasionally snaking his hands around my waist whenever I stood behind him in line for a ride. Each action left my skin trailed with goosebumps. Somehow Zara was the only one who noticed all this, throwing me death glares each time.

I didn't understand how things were moving so fast, but as a person who'd never been in any sort of relationship, I decided not to question it. So instead of worrying myself about that, I decided to move all my energy into coming up with an outfit for the party tonight.

After a lot of intense grovelling, my parents finally gave me permission to go. They were the ones who wanted me to have more of a social life after all.

My wardrobe was nothing but a hodgepodge of band t-shirts, shorts, skinny jeans and sneakers. Sure I'd been invited to a high school party not the met gala but I still felt like I had to dress up a little bit. This was going to be my first party after all.

I sifted through all the hung garments until I found something I knew would definitely suit what I was going for; A super short and sparkly emerald dress with a halter neckline. I bought it a couple years ago because it was half off and it brought  out the green in my eyes but I had no idea where I would wear it.

Guess it was a good investment.

I tied my hair in a high ponytail to show off the neckline of the dress and I only wore lip gloss. Sure I wanted to dress up but its not like I'd magically learned how to do makeup overnight.

I wanted to wear my dress with converse because I knew we'd probably be standing all night and I needed something comfortable. Instead I threw all caution to the wind and decided to borrow a pair of strappy black heels from my mom. I tripped a couple times trying to walk in them, but I eventually got the hang of it.

Asha and the gang said they would come pick me up at seven. When the clock struck seven, they were nowhere in sight. Needless to say this triggered my anxiety, my poor fingernails suffering the consequence. Part of me thought maybe they decided against taking me with them. Who wants to take some timid girl with barely any social skills to a party anyway?

My fears dissipated when I heard a knock on the door followed by an excited Asha walking in once my mom opened it. The two exchanged pleasantries before Asha turned her gaze to me, eyeing my outfit up and down.

"Wow, now I feel under dressed," is what she said. I thought her tight leather dress was gorgeous, but I suppose she was just trying to pay me a compliment. She'd done her hair in a wavy afro and she had dark makeup perfect for the evening.

"You look great Asha," I smiled.

We walked out of the house and towards the driveway where Trevor's Range Rover was parked. If I hadn't already slept in their lavish house I would have been extremely intimidated right now. Actually I kind of was.

Zara, Gus and Derrick were already in the car too. We exchanged greetings. I sat next to Zara, Asha was in the front with Trevor while Gus and Derrick sat together in the back. Did I mention the car had seven seats? The definition of luxury I tell you.
