Chapter 13 | Jerks Are Jerks At heart
~~~~~~
"So?" Taylor excitedly asks, grabbing my shoulders and shaking my petite body to and fro. My plate of lunch food wobbles, so I shoot her a loose glare in warning.
If my food dropped, she was dead.
Her slim hands let go of me, raising in surrender. Once I recollect myself, I reluctantly answer her.
"It was great."
Taylor pouts. "That was it? Great? Where are the details, c'mon! You're more dry than my ex."
She's referring to my meeting (let's call it that) with Chance at the rink the day before, where I had the time of my life. He's such a sweet guy, and a real gentlemen. After we had skated for a while, he convinced me to go get dinner, and after he had dropped me back at my apartment and somehow gotten me to give him my number. Ever since, we've been texting each other with small talk back and forth. He even texted me goodnight last night and good morning this morning.
I tell her just that, elaborating the tiniest bit. We walk over to Axel and Sam as we talk, who are seated at our familiar section of the table.
"He's so cute, I'm so proud." She sighs happily, grabbing my arm as if to jostle me in an ecstatic manner.
"Who's cute?" Sam inquires cautiously, narrowing his eyes as Taylor. He almost seems jealous, the way he looked at her questionably with his hazel eyes.
Wait, does he like her?
I can feel the lightbulb appear above me head as I plot an idea.
"A cute guy Taylor met," I fib, a huge faux smile plastered on my face. Taylor whips her head towards me, blond ponytail flying in her face.
"What are you taking about? I didn't-"
I interuppt her, smiling sweetly at Sam.
"Oh sorry, I meant hot guy. He was a real charmer, and even asked Taylor for her number."
I surely don't miss the way Sam's muscular body tenses and the way his dark eyebrows shot to the sky.
I can't help myself, for I can lie no much longer. I burst out in laughter, holding a hand in front of my mouth. Realizing he had been played, he turns his narrowed eyes to me, clearly annoyed.
"Ha, ha Kirsten," he mocks, rolling his eyes before changing his attention to his food. I do the same after I calm down, gratefully digging into my warm, crispy chicken nuggets.
Taylor however didn't let go of the situation that easy. "Are you jealous?" She half teases, head cocked in question as she challenges him to answer with a playful smirk.
"Me? Never," he quips, returning the same expression back at her. His green eyes travel from her hands resting on the table back to her face, squinting as he smiles.
After Sam's answer to her question, Axel's head snaps to Sam, wearing a flabbergasted expression.
"But I thought you said you had a cr-" Axel never finishes his sentence, for Sam drops his food back onto his plate before reaching over and putting a hand over his best friends mouth.
