"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU!" Axel yells, quite offkey I might add, as we conclude the birthday song to Carolynn.
She puts her head down to blow out the few colorful candles Taylor managed to find in a junk drawer in the kitchen because she forgot to buy them at the store. One is a big green candle you find in stores that has a number on it, and the number is 3. It's old and Carolynn isn't turning anything with a three in it, but we decided to use it anyways.
The candles are situated at the corner of the cake and with huge grin on her face, Carolynn blows them out. Once the small flames are extinguished, Axel snakes his hand behind her and pushes her face into the bare part of the white cake.
"Axel!" I scold in an austere manner. I'm certain Carolynn will be mad at his action but whilst she arises with white icing all over her nose and forehead, she laughs.
While wiping the frosting off her face she yells, "Payback!"
Axel has no chance of dodging the big blob of cake she throws at him, for it ends up smacking him in the exact center of his surprised face.
"You really don't mess with girls and food," he grumbles. Raising his finger, he brings it up to the cake on his face, swiping a bit off. His green eyes study it for a moment as if he's searching for unseen poisons before he tentively licks it.
"Not bad, Taylor," he compliments with an approving nod to her.
"Thank Kroger, not me," she replies, her brown eyes dragging from his face and down to the cake with a disappointed expression.
The cake ceases to look like a cake, it's white frosting and chocolate interior messily mixed together to create an unnatural brown. The part where Carolynn had grabbed the piece of cake to throw it at Axel looked as if someone brutally stepped on it, subtracting the part where dents from her fingers shown. No part of it is left untouched.
What a waste of perfectly good food.
"Are we going to eat?" Axel asks innocently, gesturing to the mess of a cake.
"I'll pass," I say in unison with Taylor. I look over and catch her appalled expression at the poor excuse of a desert. "Actually, we should all just skip eating cake I think."
"I agree," chimes in Sam.
"Party poopers," Axel mutters under his breath, but otherwise doesn't object.
"C'mon, let's go play the game you wanted," suggests Noah, grabbing Axel's hand and dragging him out of the room. We all follow hastily, trudging into the bedroom. I make sure to grab the bag of Ruffles before anyone else does and resume my spot in the center of the bed.
Carolynn and Axel scatter in the remaining opening spots on the Queen mattress, Taylor sits on a baby blue beanbag (that matches the color of the walls) she conveniently pulled out from the back of her huge walk in closet, and Sam and Noah occupy a skinny two seated loveseat couch across from the bed.
"I'm so ready for this," Axel beams eagerly, reaching across the bed to hold Carolynn's shoulder. He gently shakes her, getting her attention. "You go first."
