Later that night, I was sitting outside in the backyard, watching the sky. Spork was stretched out on the railing, soaking in the sunlight.
Connor and Andy sat by me, hanging around. Aaron joined us, bringing me a cup of water. Aaron gave Spork a little pat on the head before sitting down.
"Man, Oregon is so pretty," Andy said, watching the sunset.
Aaron hummed. "It is. I was thinking of moving here."
Aaron stool a glance at me. I shrugged slightly at him. It wasn't my place to say whether or not he moved here. I was moving to New Zealand anyway.
"It's the prettiest place of all time." I kicked my feet across Andy's lap. "I love it, but I'm going to New Zealand."
"Are you coming back?" Andy asked.
"Oh, yeah, definitely," I replied. "I'll come back for summers and after I graduate, but I'm planning on staying either there or in Australia."
Connor tipped his beer to me. "Both are very beautiful countries."
I shrugged. "I love both of them. When I was still living in Australia, my parents would take me to New Zealand every summer. It's amazing there. I feel more of a connection there than I do in Australia, even though I've got family there and I grew up as an Aussie."
"I've never been to New Zealand," Connor said. "Maybe if you do move there, I could come down and visit."
"Maybe," I muttered. "It's a wonderful place. Very expensive, but wonderful."
The conversation fell and we sat there, watching the sky, which was filled with all sorts of beautiful colors. The trees were parted so we could see the sun as it set.
"Cody!" Dad yelled from inside. "Come here!"
"Why?" I yelled back in Bulgarian.
"Just come here!" Dad yelled back.
I huffed and got up, muttering in Bulgarian. I walked inside and found Dad in the kitchen.
"Can you do the dishes?" Dad asked in his native tongue.
I sighed. "Sure."
Grumbling, I did what I was told and began. I finished within ten minutes and went back out the guys. They were in the middle of laughing when I stepped out on the porch.
"So, Connor," I began, sitting in my spot and throwing my legs up on Andy's lap. "How was your date with Chloe? You didn't tell me how it went."
"It went amazingly," Connor replied. "I met her parents and I think that went well. I think they like me. After that, we went to this Italian place that had the best food ever. I dropped her off at her place and came back here."
"You guys are so cute," I cooed.
Connor nodded. "Yeah, we are. I really Chloe. She's the best person ever."
The conversation changed. We hung out for a while longer before we decided to go inside to sleep. Aaron came in after I had gotten changed.
"Good night," Aaron whispered.
"Good night," I replied.
Aaron hesitated before nodding and closing the door behind him. I shrugged it off as nothing and rolled over. I was on my phone for a bit before I fell asleep.
I woke up a while later. I got on my phone and was on it for a while when Aaron came in.
"Breakfast," Aaron said.
