Kennedy:

I jumped out of bed as my alarm clock went off. I checked the time 6:35am. I hopped out of bed and ran into the shower to get ready. I grabbed my bluetooth speaker and blasted music as I showered, I've always preferred scalding hot water. I don't know why, my mom always said it was the devil in me appreciating the heat. But my grandmother always laughed and told her, "Shauna leave that girl alone."

I smiled thinking about my grandmother, she always protected me from the whoppings I should've gotten and always slipped me a 20 dollar bill just because. But after her business closed down things took a turn for the worse. My grandfather passed shortly after that and four months later, so did my grandmother. The family says that she died of a broken heart.

I turned off the shower and stepped out, I grabbed my towel and dried off the best I could. I tip-toed to my bedroom and lotion my skin with cocoa butter. I never really wore makeup so I just put lipgloss on.

Then, I got dressed.

My hair hates me.

I grabbed my house keys and speed walked out the door, I looked at my phone and checked the time 7:50am. I jogged to my car, it was a 2008 Toyota Corola. Hey, it doesn't look good and its small, but it was the first car I bought on my own, and if it ain't broke. Don't fix it

I put my key into the ignition and tried to start it but it didn't work. Maybe it is broke, and maybe I do need to fix it.

I tried about five more times to no avail. I eventually gave up and just called an Uber.

When I got to my shop it was 8:30. "Okay, I have an hour to set up." I unlocked the doors and stepped inside, I turned on all of the lights and began to prep the baking supplies. I turned on the bluetooth system in the shop and began to play Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac
