Arrex P.O.V

The King sat before us on his throne, drinking in the love and admiration of the crowd that applauded him. In all honesty, the King was a good man. He loved his subjects and they returned it, causing peace across the The North. There were seven of us knelt before him, and behind us stood a little over a hundred people. That number was increased by the large number of richer citizens standing on the balconies, looking down at us. The King stood up and immediately his audience fell silent as they awaited his royal words.

"My beloved subjects" He said, his deep voice manipulating the audience into relaxing, "I am touched by how many of you have come here to see me, and so I must say thank you to you all." He paused, taking in the adoring faces of the crowd and smiling warmly. "But the reason I have requested the presence of you all, is to ask a favour. Kneeling before me are the seven greatest magic-users this kingdom has ever seen, and so, it is to them that I turn to, asking for their help, for them to accept a mission from their beloved King."

As one, the audience held its breath as the King turned towards our group; all of us kneeling and awaiting his orders.

"With your powers and my ideas, we can achieve the impossible. We can harvest, create and mold magic, forcing it to do as we desire and resulting in it benefiting the entire kingdom. It's not only you who is affected by this, but also your family, your friends, and the rest of the citizens across our land. You'll each receive a very large sum of golds, and I can guarantee your families will live in bliss for as long as they live. So do you accept?"

The King's icy blue gaze met my indigo coloured eyes and I knew that, even though he'd posed it as a question, it was most definitely an order.

I pictured my family benefiting. The customers we'd get at the inn; the happiness radiating from my mother's face as my younger siblings, eight year old Hethlyn and six year old Liza, were free from the starvation threatening their lives during the winter months. There was no doubt in my mind, after all, it would help my family.

Looking back at the King, I nodded mutely, and realised the six other magic-users beside me had done the same. The King smiled triumphantly, before raising his gaze to look back at his audience.

"As you have all witnessed..." I stopped listening as the King droned on about the legal implications and how great his 'beloved audience' were.

I glanced at the person to the right of me. From what I could tell, she was a girl around me age, at about 19, and she looked as bored as I did.

"Hey," I whispered from the corner of my mouth, stifling a snigger when she practically jumped in surprise, "How much longer do you think he'll keep babbling?"

Though she didn't turn to face me, I saw the corner of her mouth curve upwards in a small smile.

"He's the King, he's going to want to drag this out for as long as possible, but I'm pretty sure he'll be done soon."

"Oh, God. M'name's Arrex, by the way, Arrex Jones."

"I know," She said and frowned, "He introduced us all at the beginning."

"No... I don't- I think-" I paused, now it was my turn to frown, "I wasn't paying attention."

"And you're still not, are you?" The booming accusation of the King startled me, and my head shot up as my cheeks went red.
