I was never harmed or tormented or injured and yet my everyday living was hell. Tomo and Hiro pulled me around like a human doll, loving me and holding me till I felt as though I was suffocating. I knew I had to get out but I was hesitant on making a run for it. The doors were always locked and when I wasn't with one of the boys they would keep me chained up in my room like a doll. I feared that if I tried to leave they would punish me with even more restrictions and I wouldn't be able to handle that. So I decided, If I was going to leave I had to be sure that they could never take me back. For that I needed one thing: a gun. He tried to keep it a secret, but I knew that Tomo kept one in the old toolbox under his bed. He had gotten into the habit of taking me to his room at night and one night when he thought I was asleep in his bed I saw him take it out and clean it by the light of the moon. I didn't know why he had it but I knew that if I wanted to leave then I had to get my hands on it.
That night when Tomo brought me to his room I feigned sleep until I could hear his breath settle on the rise and fall of his chest slow. Once I was sure he was asleep I wiggled my way out of his arms and crawled down to the floor where I pulled the gun out of its hiding spot under the bed. I quickly filled it with bullets and slipped it under my shirt before tiptoeing out of the room and into the hall. Once I was in te hall I felt as if my whole body was vibrating. I had never roamed the house on my own before and I was terrified that at any second the creaking of the floor boards would wake the boys and they would drag me back and chain me up in my room.
With that thought pushed to the back of my mind I quickly fled down the stairs and to the back door. I found the key hidden in the usual spot under the sink where they thought I wouldn't find it. I unlocked and opened the door and was immediately met with the fresh cold air of the outdoors. As soon as that door was open I bolted, I didn't even do it consciously it was as if my body knew what my mind was planning and acted on its own. I ran barefoot over the rough earth though the darkness until my muscles began to burn and my chest heaved violently. I had forgotten that in the time I had been there I had been severely inactive. My muscles had shriveled up and now that they were in use again they were too weak to run the long distance. Still I pushed myself to keep walking as I stumbled by bushes and trees, occasionally leaning on the trunk of a passing tree for stability. I don't think I made it more than a mile before my legs gave out and I collapsed on the dirt floor. I curled into a ball and pulled myself to lean against a nearby tree as I tried in vein to calm my racing heart and my raggedy breath. After a few minutes I tried to stand up but was met with a burning pain running up and down my legs that forced me to sit back down. It was my worst possible fear: my body was giving up on me, and to make matters worst I was begging to hear noises in the distance behind me.
I held my breath and tightly huddled myself up against the tree trunk as the noises turned into voices and they got closer and closer. I nearly shrieked when the bright beam of a flashlight cut through the darkness and nearly hit me in my hiding spot. It missed by a few feet as it surveyed some bushes before fanning out in the opposite direction.
"She couldn't have gone far." I heard a voice say and immediately tensed up as I recognized it as Tomo.
"I can't believe you lost her!" Hiro growled, as their voices became closer and closer. I covered my ears and squeezed my eyes shut as I prayed relentlessly for them not to find me. Unfortunately, the gods never did work in my favor.
"I FOUND HER!" Hiro screamed as an arm gripped onto my leg and pulled me harshly forward. I screamed and kicked out hitting Hir square in the face as my hands rapidly went to my shirt to pull out the gun. When Hiro saw the weapon he went wide-eyed and backed off a few feet but still stayed in a relatively close distance.
"What are you doing with that?" I heard Tomo say as he circled around me and appeared on my right side. I stumbled away as I kept switching between pointing the gun at Hiro and Tomo before quickly settling on Tomo as he was drawing nearer.
"You aren't going to shoot me, are you?" Tomo asked with sadness settled in his eyes. I held my breathe as my finger quivered over the trigger.
"I'm not going back!" I growled as I stood my ground and tried to look hostile but with my weak appearance I probably wasn't that intimidating.
"You won't shoot me Y/n. I'm your brother. You love me." Tomo said and I could see Hiro squaring me up and slowly advancing on my left side. I couldn't shot both of them and I couldn't hesitate much longer or else Hiro or Tomo will grab me. I had to make a choice.
So I quickly turned the gun on myself and pulled the trigger. I heard a scream that was not my own and then I was greeted by darkness. All around me was this dull emptiness but it was neither cold or unsettling. It was warm and comforting and I took pleasure in wrapping myself up in it, but most of all I took joy out of knowing that no one will ever hurt me again. I was free.
The End.
