"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The house cheered as Hattie rose from her slumber, slumping downstairs rubbing her eyes. She nodded at them putting in a happy face before taking a seat at the table.

Sirius slid into the seat beside her and handed her a box. Lifting the lid off she took a look and found a necklace. It was heart shaped and inside was picture of her and her dad when she was four. They had whipped cream moustaches and crossed their eyes.

Hattie looked at her father who was smiling down at her. "Thank you." She muttered, the cold of the chain in her fingers reminding her of the coldness of the blade she had hidden under her bed.

Sirius took the necklace from her hand and lifted her hair out of the way, clasping it around her neck. He pressed a loving kiss to her forehead as she was handed presents from everyone else.

After many 'thank yous' and fake smiles she forced some pancakes down. Charlie was distracted by his father who was discussing something that he was to deal with when he got to work and she made a quick escape to the bathroom.

She went to get changed after finishing up in the bathroom. Hattie sat on her bed in just her underwear opposite the mirror. She stared at herself.

There wasn't much to her. Both metaphorically and literally. She was basically a bag made of skin filled with bones. Picturing her head, she saw her fingers slowly start to fade, followed by the rest of her hands, wrist arm, torso, legs, toes, until only her head was left. Her hair faded, then her ears, nose, mouth, cheeks, forehead, chin, eye brows. Until only her eyes were left. They were red and puffy, slowly closing until they snapped back open at the sound of a knock on the door.

"Hattie? Why is the door locked?" Ginny's voice rang from the other side of the door. The door handle was tried against Hattie was in a mad rush to pull on some clothes, slipping something into her pocket before pulling on her shoes.

She unlocked the door and swung it open, Hinny stumbling foreword slightly. "I was changing." She stated and brushed past her. She ran down the stairs and towards the front door.

"Hattie, where are you going?"Asked Harry from the living room door.

She thought for a moment, "I'm meeting my friend..."

"But it's your birthday?"

"Exactly." She nodded, smiling. "They want to give me a present. We arranged it last time I was with them."

Harry nodded and let her proceed in leaving the house.

Slamming the door behind her she broke into a run down the path and out onto the country road. She ran and ran through fields until she came to her usual spot. Leaping, she grasped hold of the lowest branch and hauled herself up, throwing her leg over the top and adjusting herself on the branch and leaning against the trunk.

Hattie closed her eyes as she steadied her breathing. Her arms had started itching as soon as her fingers touched the blade, placing it into her pocket back at the house. The urge was taking over her and she needed to relieve herself.

Picking it out from her jeans pocket, Hattie stared down at it. It shimmered as the August sunlight bounced onto it. Her sleeves were rigged up already and she pressed it down. As soon as it touched her skin a tingly sensation washed over her body. The deeper she pressed the better it felt. The longer the slice the better.

After Harry had announced that Hattie was out with a friend, Charlie became suspicious. Of course, he had no proof that she was lying. Not yet anyway. It just seemed rather off, her disappearing to be with a friend.

"She's gone out with them a lot this summer. You don't think it's a boy do you?" Sirius worried, "I don't want her having a boyfriend!"

Lily laughed, "I think it would be sweet her having a boyfriend."

James glared at his wife, "She's too young!"

"Too young?! She's fifteen!" Cried Molly. "A boyfriend would be a wonderful thing for her right now! Especially a summer romance."

Sirius groaned, "that's it. She's staying home, not going back to school."

"You wouldn't say that if it was Harry having a girlfriend." Lily smirked, "You would be praising him!"

Harry blushed beetroot red, looking away from the group as he adjusted his glasses.

"That's different!" Added Remus.

"You're just being sexist now!" Cried Tonks. "Honestly, let the girl lead her life and fall in love. It's bound to happen one day."

Sirius rolled his eyes at his cousin, "maybe when I'm dead."

The blood dropped from her arm and down onto the ground net to the tree. Hattie watched as it trickled and drop! Drop! Drop!

The crimson splashed onto the strands of grass, tainting it red like a flick of a paintbrush on a canvas. Hattie climbed down from the tree and sunk down to the ground. She let the blood continue to flow and eventually she grew faint.

She had lost a bit of blood, enough for her to grow dizzy, adding to the fact she hadn't had a drink and the sun was beating down on her and the heat was rather hot.

Her eyes rolled back and her body fell sideways, darkness capturing her.

All alone in the middle of the field with a blade beside her.
