The Rise of a New Team

Alex hung up the phone and got in his green McLaren P1 Render, Charles had given him money for a new car after he crashed the old one and bought this one. He sped towards the mansion and saw a cop on his tail; he continued to turn corners until he lost them before slowing down to avoid detection of more cops. Alex pulled up to the mansion, it looked exactly the same as it did ten years ago, a gravel driveway, a huge yard, and the mansion itself. The only change he could see was the large groups of kids that could be seen in the side yards playing on basketball hoops, he walked inside and saw Paiton leaning against the wall, there was a guy talking to her but his back was turned so he couldn’t see who it was. Jealously started rise up in him and Alex walked over to greet her.

            “Paiton, Charles called me here… something about getting the old team together?” Alex asked.

            “Oh, yeah! Professor X said we were all going to start training a new team.” Paiton grinned. “This is Cyclops by the way.”

            “Havok I’d like you to meet the new team.” Charles said as he wheeled himself out from behind his desk. “The girl with the white hair is Storm, the brunette is Jean, and I believe you know Cyclops.”

            “We only have three this time?” Alex asked.

            “Yes, but they are the most experienced and I was hoping since the original team is still young you might join up with them.”

            “Same here then, I’ll get back to you soon though.” Alex replied before Charles dismissed them.

            He followed his old friends outside where they were met with curious looks from the other students, they looked away though in embarrassment after they noticed they’d been caught staring, Paiton sat down on the grass that was in the shade of a tree so the others sat down beside her.

            “You missed out on a lot since you’ve been gone.” Sean told them.

            “Like what? It doesn’t look that different.” Paiton observed.

            “We are teaching them, the kids, about their abilities and how to control them!” Darwin replied.

            “Yeah, and Beast… uh I mean Hank, is one of the most respected guys in the government.” Sean nearly shouted.

            “I’m also the best person fighting for mutant rights there.” Hank added.

            “I thought you were the only person.” Alex commented.

            “It still counts.” Hank checked his watch and started to get up. “I have to go back to work but I’ll try to stop by again soon.”

            They watched him leave and less than five minutes later Sean and Darwin left to start teaching their classes. Paiton sat up and moved closer to Alex, he wrapped his arm around her and leaned back against the tree.

            “It seems like we haven’t seen each other in forever.” He sighed.

            “It was just ten years.”

            “But it seemed longer… I wish you had stayed with me to look for them.”
