Emma Whitestone, who was known to throw fits and be overdramatic when she was angry, refused to see anyone but the Divines. After all, if Gary Bluethorne was my father, then they'd know... Because they had to have had a hand in naming me the next Kalos. Right? I sat in my assigned room, my feet up on the piles of fabric.
There was a plethora of knocks on the door, each one thundering and fear-inducing. I drew my knees up to my chest, holding my hands over my ears as one of the Extants shouted for me to come out. I couldn't tell which Extant it was, but that didn't change my mind on whether I wanted to talk to them or not. I want to speak to the Divines. How in the Dark Realm could they be busy, when all of their worries are here in this building? That wasn't true; there was the 'break' they had to deal with, but did both of them really have to apply to that?
Finally, there were a couple of more gentle raps. I uncovered my ears, cautious, and was met with a familiar voice. "This is Lord Ebony. I have been told you have requested to speak to me?"
What should I do? I had to ask her about Bluethorne, of course, but after seeing first-hand how someone suffered, how do you react to them? I'd seen through Ebony's eyes. . . How she was betrayed, how her love turned to hate, how she vowed to hate her child forever, how noble she had been before...
Before I could decide, she opened my door, an acheivement everyone else who tried to bother me had not went to accomplish. I looked up at the Divine nervously. She was as I remembered, but noticably older. Her long, midnight hair waved like a single black curtain behind her back, split to the right in the front. Her eyes were just as dark, and her skin was pale. Her lips were painted a bright shade of red, and her eyes were lined with make-up. If she were a fictional character, I'd have guessed her to be a vampire. A demon would have only been my second guess. The violet silks she wore were much more elegant than those the Blaehdoes and Kalos demons wore; they were duotone, shimmering in the light, somehow being pale and dark at once. They sparkled as if a handful of diamonds had been tossed into the stitching, and instead of hanging off of her body like the clothing did to me, it flowed behind her like a dress. Anyone who knew me would know that beauty and I did not get along, but even I couldn't deny Lord Ebony was breathtaking.
I swallowed. "Y-yes. I..." What? Tell her that a Dark demon contacted you? Does she even know that you have visions? "I have reason to suspect that I have been lied to. Uh, I have reason to think that my bloodline may be flawed."
Ebony closed the door and stood, not bothering to take a seat anywhere. Obviously, she thought the discussion wouldn't last long. "Many of the Extants' bloodlines have flaws."
"No . . . I don't think that I'm the actual Kalos. I think there was someone before me, someone who died, and so I was picked." Oh, come on, this isn't about Lilith. "I also think that you would know exactly how my bloodline was flawed."
"Oh, I do." Her eyes narrowed. "You are half pure demon. And you are the Kalos because of this. As far as someone before you goes, there may have been someone more suitable whose life ended. Can I help you with anything else?"
Would she even know about Lilith? She doesn't have visions. If they were looking for the Kalos Extant around the time I was alive, then they wouldn't know about Lilith, because they found me. "Half pure demon. Then you'd know who that demon was? Please tell me." Tell me it isn't Gary...
Ebony looked me straight in the eye and said in a voice as smooth as silk, "Your father was Gary Bluethorne." I cupped my face in my hands as she continued, "Do not think that it makes you a Dark Demon. Remember that Kalos and Blaehdos are demons who go against their evil nature, so as long as you deny the darker of sins, then you are a Kalos. Can I help you with anything else?"
