Chapter 3
The Fish
Although not true, It has been said that a goldfish only have seven seconds of memory... after seven seconds... everything becomes new again... I envy goldfish, I don't want to remember.
Your Aunt's Name = [Aunt]
Second Person
It's been a month since your first day at your new school. You haven't seen the volleyball team since that encounter on the first day. It's not like you hate them or anything of that nature, it's just that you've been caught up in school work recently. It's not easy moving to Japan from [Home Country]. Although you did live in Japan up until you were eleven, [Home Country] is a lot different and you've forgotten a lot of things about the culture and language. To heck if you even remember how to write Kanji!
You do feel bad though, and you do wish deeply that you could get to know the volleyball team better but your life consists of studying, eating, sleeping, more studying, housekeeping, and occasionally, a bit of time to unpack boxes. You would love to go out and get to know the area around you with Yachi and Kiyoko but you just haven't had the time.
The last social interaction you had with someone outside of school was when you had run into Kiyoko on the way home from the grocery store. She had asked if you wanted to have lunch and you couldn't refuse so you and her sat in a little cafe and talked. Actually it was more like you very awkwardly tried to start a conversation with her while she stared at you and nodded. You didn't really know her well considering you had only interacted with her once, you were also quite unsure as to why she has asked you to lunch, I guess it's a Japanese thing. Or maybe she was trying to recruit you into her cult!
Or maybe she was just trying to be nice. Whatever works!
Anyways, you ended up having to leave in a hurry and accidentally grabbed her cellphone instead of yours when getting your stuff together. With a bit of help from Yachi, you had returned her phone while also discovering you had gained a new contact. You now occasionally find yourself texting her when you reach a temporary wall in your studies.
Now, back to present day. Today is Friday, the last day of the week. Also the day you had a test in almost every class. And boy, you were already suffering before you even left the house. Turns out you had left your bedroom window open last night and that's not the best idea considering it is the middle of winter. Because of this you slept through your alarm and didn't wake up until your second alarm (the "thirty minutes before you have to leave" alarm) went off. Lifting yourself out of bed, you grabbed your phone to turn off your alarm clock, then proceeding to pull it off the charger and bring it into your cocoon of blankets. You start to scroll through all your social media pages until you find yourself becoming increasingly cold. You look up and finally spot your open window, decided that if you were to ever get ready for your dreadful day ahead, it'll start with closing that damned window. As you climb out of your bundle of blankets and make your way over to you window you trip over what seems to be one of your unpacked boxes.
"Ouch!" You shout, "I don't know what's worse: eating a soft grape or stubbing your toe." You sit on the edge of your bed, cradling your foot. You cringe, "definitely the grape. Just thinking about eating one gives me chills."
You slowly make your way over to your bathroom across the hall, starting your normal morning routine, brush teeth, wash face, comb hair (or if you're "blessed" with Satan/curly hair, you wrestle with it), and sing VERY loudly. In the middle of you reenacting an instrumental solo you hear your phone begin to ring in the other room. You quickly make your way over to the other room to prevent from missing the call.
