Chapter 10

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

~Luke's P.O.V.~

"Do you want to know the truth?"

Oh no. I lost my breath. Did they jam the glass in her head? Is she dead? I started shaking and breathing uncontrollably. Looking up, I saw Patrycja's eyes tearing.

"She's doing fine. Monika made it through surgery very well. She may not remember everything due to the head injury and the concussion that she has." Dr. Schneider said briefly.

"Ok, thank you." I said relieved as I slid off the table with the paper wrap on it.

Both of us walked back out to the waiting room. "Oh my god Luke! What happened to your hand?" Monika's mom asked concerned about me.

"Oh, I burnt it on coffee pretty bad." I replied casually.

"Visitors for Monika can come in, only family and close friends currently." Nurse Jackie announced through the door.

"May I?" I asked her Mom.

"Of course Luke, you're a close friend obviously." Iwona, Monika's mom, replied also signaling for Patrycja to come.

We walked down the tight hallway and turned right to Monika's room. There she lied with an oxygen mask on her face and an IV in her arm.

I walked up to her, touched her head, and sat down next to her. Iwona bent over her daughter, kissed the top of her head, and started crying. The door opened exposing her dad, Adam, and their 2 year old chocolate labradoodle, Maya. Adam walked up to Iwona kissed her cheek and gave her a hug while rubbing her back. He let go of Maya who immediately ran up to me, and then started sniffing Monika and whinned.

I picked the 60 pound dog up and placed her on the foot of the bed. Adam walked up, took a long look at Monika, and nodded his head no in disbelief. We all sat arouund Monika, some of us dozing off, but I couldn't.

An hour later I pulled out checking the time on my phone. Two in the afternoon. I rubbed my eyes, yawned, and stretched my legs. Monika's parents woke up from their naps with growling stomachs. "We should eat something." Adam said. Iwona went with him but Patrycja and I passed saying that we weren't hungry. Patrycja moved to the other side of Monika, where her mom was sitting previously.

We sat there silently. I rested my injured hand over Monika's delicate hand. Patrycja leaned over and pet the fluffy brown dog.

Then something shocked us, we heared a muffled "Ow."
