Elizabeths pov
I never really fit into the social norms at school. I was a loner and never talked to anyone unless I had to. I guess that's how I earned the title of school freak and why everyone bullied me. It was my senior year of high school and school had just ended for the day,but instead of going home I went to the pier. As I sat there looking into the dark churning water I started to think about just jumping to my death. I mean not like anyone would miss me,my moms dead, my dads constantly working, and my brother left when he turned 16 4 years ago. Giving up I stand up and jump into the water letting it consume me and flow into my lungs as I closed my eyes hoping to end my suffering. I wake up,wait wake up I'm supposed to be dead, I'm not supposed to wake up, I'm supposed to be suffering in hell. "Come child" I see a man, wait merman with a long blue tail not knowing what else to do I follow him. Wait I shouldn't be able to move this easily down here. I look to where I used to have feet to see a light grey tail. The man starts to swim faster and not wanting to get lost I speed up as well. After traveling for a few more minutes we come across an underwater city. "Come child, you must meet the king before you can roam the kingdom" We continue to swim for about 30 more seconds and he opens the door to a large palace. He pushes me foreword "Well this is where I leave and wish you luck with King Jonah" I swim a few feet forward before looking up and seeing a large man wearing a crown. I can feel the power oozing off of this man. "Look at me little one" I knew I was little but really you had to call me that. Apparently I was taking too long because I hear him say "Look at me now little one." He adds more authority to his voice when saying this command and I'm forced to obey it. I look up and the water gets caught in my throats because this man is the best looking man I've ever seen. "Elizabeth Bratton, sister of Joe Bratton?" He questions. "Yes sir my brother was Joe Bratton but I haven't seen him in years"
"Well my little mermaid there are several things you need to be taught but first let's get you settled in. You will live here and can have the room next to mine." "Thank you King Jonah." I saw quietly. "It's just Jonah to you little one, you don't have to call me king." I look up and give him a shy smile before following him to my room. As we are swimming there I start to think (although it has a tendency to get me into trouble) about how weird my "life" is if you would even call it a life anymore. Also why is it so easy to breath water, and why does Jonah not let me address him as king and why does he call me little one. I'm not that little.
