Nobody could tell me it was a normal day, because it wasn't.It started Tuesday night, I had given up on staying awake and reading fanfics. So, I went to sleep. That was my first full night of sleep that week. I woke up and it was valentine's day. Nothing special, just the one day of the year where I can use pick up lines and have "nobody" judge me. School was a normal day since my teachers didn't necessarily do Valentine's. I was in high school, so it made sense not to give cards to 50 people. And yes, I had to go to a private school because I can't stand a day around 1000 people. I still gave cards to my friends and they gave cards back, but it wasn't special. My parents went on a date that night so I read fanfics in bed while the babysitter tried to deal with my brothers. After my parents got back I decided to hit the hay. As I closed my eyes I started to think about things I wished could happen to me. I wanted a life where there would be less boring humans... Something a little more extra.
I woke up to my mom rubbing my back and repeating my name. I rolled over on my side and looked at her. I responded with a hazy "yes?"
"Its time to get ready for school. So, let's get going, also I made your lunch."
I rolled back over so I wasn't facing her. She left the room and I got up. I checked the clock, I could miss the bus if wanted to... But I didn't. I got dressed and opened my door. When I walked out, the winter Olympics were on. It was hockey, Sweden vs the USA. Both of my brothers stared at the screen. I grabbed my bag and stuffed my lunch in. My mom saw me, "Aren't you going to eat?" my dull eyes looked at her meaninglessly. I picked up a piece of toast off the plate she was holding and walked out to my bus stop. There was nobody at my stop except for me like usual. Everyone else went to a more local school. I, however, was lucky and got my name drawn in a raffle. As the yellow bus pulled around the corner and stopped in front of me. The creaky doors slid open and I was welcomed in. As I stepped on I could sit was ever I pleased. There were only two other kids on the bus; my best friend and her twin. I starred out the window to see my frost covered lawn roll away.
I couldn't help but want something more from this life. After a while, I started to drift off into daydreaming. I thought of a world with monsters and humans. A place where unwanted could be wanted, a place where... but then the bus halted to a stop. The sudden stop shook me back to reality. I stood up almost as sudden as the stop and stared at the front of the bus with my friends arguing behind me. As I got off I was tackled hugged. I pushed my friend Amber off and kept walking. I felt her staring at me as her sister walked up next to me.
"Tired?" she asked
"Yep," I responded, we'd had this conversation a million times.
"Romance novels?"
"Of course."
"X readers?" She was teasingly.
"Yep," I responded calmly.
"Oooooh! Who was it with!" she started nagging me. Hearing her tone made me blush. I never really had shame about it, but when it was presented like this, it was worth the conversation. I started drifting back off into my own world again.
"Come on tell me, tell me, TELL ME!" this time with a light shove. I snapped back to reality and replied with: "I read more than one!" She giggled and kept pushing me to tell her who it was with.
As we entered the school I went straight to my locker. I pushed my bag in and pulled out some of my textbooks and sighed. When I closed the door, I found Sydnie (Amber's twin) behind it. I looked at her up and down, she was wearing tight jeans, a red shirt with some weird slogan on it, and a black fluffy jacket. She was letting her hair dangle.
