The carriage pulled up to the front of the castle. Castle Caspian had been home to the line of Caspian's for many generations, currently housing Caspian X and his aunt and uncle, King Miraz and Queen Prunaprismia. Ever since the death of Caspian IX, King Miraz has taken over his brothers crown and promised to watch over his nephew until the day Caspian X came of age and was able to take his rightful place as King of Narnia.
Out of the carriage jumped a young girl, by the name of Y/n. Her father, Doctor Cornelius, followed behind her. He had been contacted by King Miraz to come and watch over the young prince. Prior, Prince Caspian had been watched by his nurse, who had mysteriously gone missing during the night, causing Miraz to search for a new caregiver. His search had ended when he remembered his brother's dear friend and adviser, Doctor Cornelius.
The Doctor and previous Queen had been quite close. Doctor Cornelius' wife, Trudnea, even got pregnant around the same time as King Caspian IX and his Queen did. When the two children were born, they had begun being raised together. Trudnea died shortly before the former King and Queen had. To escape the pain of being so close to where she once lived, Doctor Cornelius took his daughter and left the castle in search for a quiet place to live.
When he received a letter from King Miraz, the Doctor knew better than to offend the short-tempered man, and began preparing for the long journey back to his old home.
Doctor Cornelius took his daughter by the hand and led her through the grand doors of the castle. Her eyes were wide in wonder and awe as she took in the home she had no memory of ever living in.
''Ah, Doctor Cornelius,'' Miraz exclaimed as the Doctor and his daughter walked into the throne room. King Miraz was seated on the throne with a young Prince Caspian standing beside him.
"King Miraz," Doctor Cornelius knelt as he spoke and his daughter copied him. "It is nice to be back."
"Yes, well, if Caspian here hadn't chased off his nurse," he started, sending a playful glare to the Prince, "I wouldn't have had to send for you. But everything seems to have worked out right."
Both the Doctor and Y/n noticed the confused look Prince Caspian sent towards his uncle.
"Caspian!" Miraz said loudly. "Why don't you show Y/n her room?" He turned to the doctor. "I hope you don't mind, I had them put you in your old room."
"Not at all," he replied.
Caspian walked down the stairs and towards the hallway pausing slightly to insure Y/n was following him.
"Now, about Caspian's studies..." they heard as they left the room.
"I'm terribly sorry to say that I don't remember you," Y/n spoke first as the two walked the empty hallways.
"To be honest, I don't remember you either."
The two giggled.
"My father said we were best friends when we were five," Y/n said. "Do you think we'll be friends now that we're ten?"
"Yeah, I think so."
Caspian was right. Y/n and Caspian became very close spending their afternoons sitting under the old oak at the edge of the cliff. Y/n would read stories aloud from her father's history books and Caspian would listen intently. Some days, the two would go to the training fields and Caspian would show Y/n how to use a sword or a bow, and other days they would go out riding and exploring the forests.
When Y/n turned 11, King Miraz made her his wife's personal handmaiden. Y/n would be called at any times to assist Queen Prunaprismia with anything she may need.
Despite working for a cruel and self-serving man and his wife, Y/n considered herself to have had a good childhood.
